Hi all -
I am considering getting a 2nd hand wedding dress. There are lots of websites (mainly UK, Aus, and US based) that have a platform to sell them. The condition of the dresses seem trustworthy, and I don't see anything wrong with a 2nd hand dress! It's cheaper than a new one, yet, I don't want to rent a dress as most ppl do in Hong Kong.
My future husband is against it, saying he would rather spend the $$ on a new dress. What are your thoughts?
Thank you so much!

your husband says spend the $$, so do it.
usually it's the other way around. consider yourself lucky and move on to more difficult wedding decisions

I second that! If your future man is happy to let you get a nice *NEW* dress... DO IT WOMAN! Anyways, you can always make it shorter, dye it, use the extras for a blouse. Just get a nice dress =)

Considering most women try on many, many dresses before finding the right one, or have one made if they know exactly what they want, it would be a bit of a risk ordering a second hand dress online only to find out when it arrives that you're really not happy with it. This is your one big day so have the dress that you want, not what someone else wanted. Unless the dress really isn't that important to you.

I agree with Sapphire.
I tried on so many dresses. I went to Harvey Nichols, The Landmark, Lane Crawford, Joyce, etc... I went to all the weddings dress shops in LKF, Sheung Wan, and including all the local designers who have their gorgeous boutiques but sadly to no avail I couldn't find the dress I wanted.
So I designed my own with the help of a really nice woman from TST. Sometimes we're lucky finding the right dress for us, sometimes we're not. And sadly here in HK we don't have the couture names of bridal wear like Reem Acra, Vera Wang, Amsale, Henry Roth or even Watters Brides.
Best of luck finding the right dress for you

I've just had an epiphany while sketching my designs...
I don't know what style dress you're looking for but please check out www.jcrew.com dress section - I think you'll love it. Their wedding dress selection is just GORGEOUS! All you have to do is get measured out - check their size chart and find something that suits your body shape and appeals to your sense of style.
Good luck!

ladies -
thank you so much for your replies! you're right - it's important to try on lots of dresses, and I have done so. i know what style i like, and am a "standard" US size 10. i found the designer dress i like on a second hand website, so am wondering if i should purchase it. it's half the price of the new one (HKD 25k vs HKD 13k) and the seller seems trustworthy & she said she wore it once & there was only small alterations to the dress. she's based in the USA, but is happy to ship to HK. i'm just wondering if it's worth the risk of saving 12k. i could do a lot with that money!
true, soon to be hubbie said to spend the money on a new gown, but i'm quite a saver really !
would you guys buy a designer dress of a 2nd hand website?

that is an expensive dress! but if its half of the original... its probably worth it and you know what it was the drew you to it. will the seller agree to a full refund if it doesn't fit at all?

hi all - i just want to thank you all for your replies. i ended up purchasing the 2nd hand dress and had the seller send it to my sister's address in the states. my sister will bring it to me in hong kong at the end of the month. she already opened up the package and said the dress is in pristine condition! i figure if there are alterations to be made, it will be very straightforward here in hong kong. i love the fact i got a designer dress (monique lhullier) at half the price!!
