A little over a Year Ago, I was approached by my Chiropractor here in Hong Kong to invest in a Canadian startup company called Platinum Jet Air Charters. He had a convincing presentation that he gave me from his laptop, and even introduced me to some other very positive investors. He was extremely believable, and led me to believe this company was a golden opportunity for investors; and that he was letting me get in with a few select friends as a favor. He was extremely believable and friendly, and got me very excited about all the money I was going to make After much discussion, I did invest a sizable amount of cash into the company through this doctor.
Almost immediately afterwards, this chiropractor, who incidentally, has been my chiropractor for a number of years, simply quit talking to me. He became defensive, evasive and even down right rude whenever I approached him for information about the company, and the status of my investment. He made me feel like I was insulting him each time I tried to approach him and just brushed me off. After a very short time, he even quit taking my calls. When I try to schedule a chiropractic visit, I am told by his office that he is unavailable. Needless to say I have found another chiropractor.
I am wondering if anyone else has invested in this company and had a similar experience. If so, how are you going about getting information about what happened to your investment? Do you have any advise on how to get some proof of your investment? Has the chiropractor or the company communicated or returned your communications in any way?
I am also looking for some practical legal advice on how I should proceed from here. It has been more than a year now, and I am simply at a loss. I am thinking about retaining a lawyer to look into the matter. Is this a good idea? Will I further anger the doctor, and further jeopardize my money? Is there any way I can get information about the company from Canadian authorities? Does anyone know if this is a legitimate company, or was I pure and simply scammed? I would be grateful for any information or advice.

Platinum Jet Air Charters is a legitimate company. A quick search on the Internet shows that in December 2005 it was denied licences by the Canadian Transportation Agency to "operate a domestic service, large aircraft; a scheduled international service, large aircraft; and a non-scheduled international service, large aircraft."

Possibly around the time your chiropracter stopped talking to you...
The onus would be on you to prove the case basically what proof do you have? Do you have proof of the transaction and written proof of what/how the money was to be invested (in)? Can you prove that the money was actually received by Platinum? Perhaps the chiropracter started out with good intentions but something happened along the way.
An attractive powerpoint presentation should not be used to make an investment decision, as you have unfortunately found out. You may have to accept your losses unless you can prove otherwise, but fraud in any case is a matter for the police to investigate.

Unfortunately get rich quick schemes are usually too good to be true and people almost always find this out the hard way. I am running a small private investigatiuon business and may be intersted in following up on this matter on your behalf. Can you give me a call on 2147 3534. Rgds

Vorpalblade and Claire, did anything ever come out of the PJA mess. I also invested out of Hong Kong and am looking for paperwork that either states that PJA went ...
a) bankrupt;
b) became insolvent, and a winding-up order was made in the year under the Winding-up Act; or
c) became insolvent at the end of the year and no longer carries on business.
Also, at that time, the share in the corporation has a fair market value of nil, and it is reasonable to expect that the corporation will be dissolved or wound up and will not start to carry on business.
