hi, it's hongkonitis rotting my english skills. there is a term for those small ornamental glass spheres that contain beautiful scenery inside, complete with shakable confetti, as if snow. if marketed for xmas or winter, they're called "snow globes." but i swear there's a more generic term for them (i once knew this!). does that ring a bell, anyone? im in urgent need for the term because there's a little girl ill in the hospital who has a thing for these "whatchamacallits." surprising her with a "snow globe" amid the unforgiving hk summer would be odd, so i really need THAT other term to be able to shop for item online. Help, help?

I have heard "shaker globe"

You won't have any problem shopping for them online ... a search for 'snow globes' brings up pages and pages of websites you can order from. You can always call it a 'water globe' as one of the sites does ....

thanks all for your input. another name i heard was glitter globe but i swear there's a more standard term for it. but kiddo got her glitter/snow/water globe all the same so it's good. and yes, cara, i am familiar with whatchamacallits but my sweet tooth prefers butterfingers or even bounty! cheers
