Would anyone do it? I've read various old threads on various websites about the pitfalls: (1) first registration tax (I've seen the govHK website for the levels applied); (2) imports sold again trade 30% 'cheap' cos have speedo's in mph etc (coming from UK); (3) inspection tax on arrival c. HK$8k; (4) actual shipping cost; and (5) expensive annual car tax (HK$9.6k for 3.0-4,5L). However, despite all this I guess if you like the car, as I do, and it has a full service history, then the choice is what the value of a replacement car would be in HK vs. the (lousy) resale value in the UK + the all the costs mentioned above. I reckon that it'd it still be cheaper to bring it over but really need a sense of how older versions of this car are valued in HK. Any help would be appreciated? (Have a choice between bringing over a 2003 or 2005 model - long story!) Second Q is abut the valuation process. I read that you can produce a receipt for the price paid and then, I think, you can depreciate by 25% p.a. Has anyone had experience of this? Final Q is is a 4,511 cc car considered to be a '3.0-4.5L' car for annual tax purposes or is it '4.5L+' car tax bracket? Cheers.
