it all comes down to vanity...if you're over-the-top vain, and have more money than sense (as was commented after the article) you'll be in heaven with all the expensive choices to deck out your child now...

We have bought our share of brand name baby stuff. We have also bought plenty at the market.

For us, it isn't about the name itself, it is about quality and features. Example: Yes, Petit Bateau is expensive. But you can wash the clothes hundreds of times, use them with two kids in a row, and they will still be good enough to hand down to friends' kids. On the other hand, there are brands (Australian brand that starts with "S", I'm looking at you) that are "brand name" and costly but whose quality does not live up to the name.

As funbobby says, some people have more money than sense. I think a lot is about not being able to choose what actually looks nice. You just go for the brand name and hope for the best.

I've bought my share of Dior blankets, Polo outfits, Jacady outfits, etc. The kid grows out of it so fast the stuff is still brand new. So unless there's a number 2 on the way it is hard to justify. But I think designer baby wear is no different than designer adult wear. Both gives us status. Spend what you can afford. It's no one ese's business.
