Considering a move to HK from London

I live and work in London (am a Londoner!). Earlier this yr I got a job offer in HK. I was approached for the role so relocation hasn't been something I had thought about. The job was offering relocation fees, assistance with looking for an appartment etc. However, a week before I was due to sign, it fell through due to recruitment freezes :(

Since then, I have started to think about moving out there but this time, I would need to go about everything myself - looking for work, getting a visa etc.

I am a 35 yr old female and have 13 years Banking experience and I know that it's not going to be easy.

Can anyone provide me with advice on where to start as I want to look into this rather than ruling due to lack of knowledge.

I thought contacting recruitment agencies with offices in HK would be a good start, however considering I would need to be sponsored I am not sure whether I need to consider other options.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated in addition to any useful contacts for agencies, be them in London or HK.

Thanks!!

Your best bet is to get transferred over via a UK company. Hong Kong has lots of highly-skilled and very well-educated people. A typical well-educated Hong Kong person can speak fluently English, Cantonese and Mandarin; and read and write Chinese. There are many bankers in HK and most have the skills I have just mentioned - in addition to having the right to work here. Unless you have something remarkable to offer, then finding a job will not be easy. If you have money to invest (HK$6.5m), you can get the right to work. See Capital Investment Entrant Scheme at the Immigration department at the Hong Kong Kong government website http://www.gov.hk or http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_1.htm#capital
