Hi - wanted to get a couple of things growing on the balcony. Anyone know where I could buy some interesting (edible) plants? I've already gotten basil, mint, rosemary. Wanted to get some tomatoes as well, but prefer not to grow them from seed. Anyone know where I can get plants or seedlings on HK side? I would LOVE some heirloom tomatoes like I used to get in NYC farmer's market but have no idea where I can get that here. Thanks!

I think they have some at the flower market.

I don't think Asian Eart exist any longer. The telephone number is the same as on Asian Eart's web site and is a non-existent number.

Thanks for the Sai Kung suggestions. Will give them a call.
Will try and drop by the flower market as well. Is there a "better" day to do so?

I went to the flower market about a month ago and though they did have tomato plants, they did not have heirloom ones. The most they could tell me was "regular" tomato or "cherry" tomato. On the plus side, I did see avocado and passionfruit plants. :) Didn't pick them up as I was going to be doing some traveling, and have not had the chance to go back since. LMK if you end up going. I went on a Saturday (not recommended, pretty busy).

You may have missed the growing season. I grew lots of 'regular' toms from seeds and they grew like mad until a few weeks back when they stopped growing and flowering. Lots of red and some yellow to pick now but it doesn't look like I'll get any more. This may be a function of lack of fertiliser or the particular variety. I'm a total beginner at this sort of thing. Our mint and parsley are still going strong.

Great, thanks. I'll try to give the flower market a go next week and will let you know. btw, i hear there's a great organic veggie market by the star ferry pier (hk side, near ifc) on wednesdays and the wknd that may have heirlooms..
Dive bum - seems strange that your tomatoes cut off like that this early in the summer but I'm also novice so have no idea. i will let you know if i somehow manage to grow something eatable this summer!

I never made it to the flower market but instead was recommended to check out Alfa Flourist in Central (G/F Lucky Building, 39 Wellington Street, Central, Hong Kong
Tel: (852) 2541 6286). They have starter tomato plants with a great selection of seeds, soil, and potting materials. They did not have heirlooms in stock but have ordered the seeds for me. The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable.
