Boredom is one of the reason I think that make not only a teenager but also an adult to go online.
Perhaps parents should spend more time with their children doing other activities outside the house. Out door activities - bike riding, hiking, walking, swimming etc. Indoor activities - reading together, painting, playing a musical instrument etc.
I think the key is to spend time with your children, not just let them be by themselves.

As a concerned older sister, my 15 yr old brother has been addicted to online games and is having trouble with grades, school and generally with all of us. Parents are in touch with his teachers but even with all the monitoring and advising, nothing seems to help. He missed school again and we're concerned they might expel him. Both parents work full time so it's just the helper in the house. We don't want him to go in the wrong direction..we just hope it isn't too late. I suggested to my dad and his wife to consider maybe counselling or sign him up for sports clubs just to get him out of the house and mingle with other teenagers with the same interests but nothing seems to work. We're all worried coz it is such a waste for hi
to just waste his life away. Any suggestion as to where in HK can we get help for troubled teens who won't go to school? Parents can't afford boarding schools overseas..parents are desperate for help :(
