I haven't been in your situation but I'm a native New Yorker and lived in SF for 15 years so if you need any helpful hints about SF please let me know.
By the way SF is an amazingly beautiful place. There is something for everyone. Ocean, the Bay, mountains, coastline. I hope you will love it as much as I loved it.

I am an Australian who has lived in Ca and now in Hk for the second time. Here's 2 cents.
I wish I had known that cancelling my cable contract and returning my cable box (cords) would be such a hassle when leaving Hk after the first stay.
I wish I had known that the process buying house in the US would involve lingo and process than my experience in Australia didn't provide for.
I wish I had known that being on a dependant visa in the US (not having a social security number, which may have changed) would prove a such hurdle in many situations.
I wish I had known that I was supposed to tip my hairdresser and hairwasher in the US.
I wish I had read my drivers guide and known that I could turn right on a red light unless otherwise marked.
I lived in Danville and wish I had known I would love it so much.
Wish I had known everyone would be so friendly and welcoming.
Wish you well.

Danville is a very nice area in the East Bay (East of San Fran). I could imagine Joga had very nice neighbors that could have given him a very nice experience.
Daily communite from Danville to SF though wouldn't be too nice...nor too bad either.

What I meant was that I left Australia a little wary and this turned out to be a completely unnecessary stress. On moving in people from the neighbourhood popped by with housewarming gifts and introductions and later on much needed help and advice. That is, I went with preconceived ideas and left proved pleasantly wrong. As for the commute to the city my husband did it. He never complained but that may have had something to do with the fact we were there during the bubble years and he was able to buy a dream car for the first time in his life.
