Car hire

Hi, I might need a runaround for a couple of months in January until I replace my current car, which in $ terms is not worth getting repaired in order to pass its road worthiness test. I can't afford and don't need a new or prestige interim car so I don't want to spend shedloads on a longterm hire/lease from Avis or Hertz, and I'm wondering if there is a cheaper option out there. I did a quick search on this forum but threads were very old.

By the way, with my location (Clearwater Bay), work schedule, location and places I have to travel to I can't rely on taxis or public transport, so having a car for a few weeks is essential.

Should appreciate it if anyone who's been in this situation recently and found a solution could share advice. Thanks.

If you pickup (or browse through) one of the local chinese car magazines in 7-11 and look through the classifieds section at the back you can find a few local companies advertising car rentals. The ads might be in chinese but you can work out what they are advertising. I used one of these companies in the past for a weeks rental worked out to about 2k all-in for a corolla but you need to put up quite a deposit.

Alternatively if you are renting for a couple of weeks or a few months just buy a cheap car from one of the sellers on the classifieds there are a few for 10-30k with a few months tax left which you could easily sell for a similar price once your done. A little bit more hassle than renting but a lot cheaper (or even quite possibly free)
