Bad news for SaiKung

I am just amazed how these buildings are put up in places and yet the infrastructure is left exactly the same. So what you are left with is an area that constantly has traffic jams and should you wish to walk the pollution from the traffic sat at a stanstill is just horrific!

I tried getting to the AMC the other day and it took almost an hour from the Ocean Park round about to get there. A few years back it used to take minutes. The amount of new buildings they have put up in that area is huge and they are still going up and yet the road is still the old narrow one that it always was, so any one who has children in the surrounding schools or take part in leisure activities in the area, let alone the poor people that live there should be concerned about the pollution from backed up traffic.

I hope they take into account the environmental impact when creating these buildings in Sai Kung or yet another lovely area of HK will be spoilt.

The pulic needs to participate more fully in these discussions. The developers are banking on public apathy to get these things passed.

I'm always stunned by the apparent short-sightedness of the people 'in charge' of making these decisions...bad news for Sai Kung indeed!

>jj - With regard to the mess at Nam Long Shan, much of this is due to the construction of the MTR and a station at the bottom of Nam Long Shan Rd. In the long run, this will...hopefully...lessen the amount of road traffic in the area (I know...I'm dreaming!)

The government is not for the people, by the people, nor elected to represent the people. They want the least amount of trouble. Developers have a vested interest and thus will push the gov't to make decisions in their favour. If there is not a balance (ie public outcry) then the gov't will not pick a fight since it is not in their best interest. We see it all over HK where the gov't takes the public's value and gives it away. It has happened in Mei Foo with the petrol station redevelopment. It has happened in Tai Hang Rd with the Legend totally obscurring the sea view of the Ronsdale residents. It almost happened in Stanley with the idea of the stupid indoor mall, and it is happening in Sai Kung (country parks).

Why does Sai Kung need a hotel? With one road in and one road out, Sai Kung needs a hotel as much as The Peak, Stanley, Shek O and Repulse Bay need a hotel.

Typical of HK Govt

Same can be said for why does Discovery bay need a hotel?

Sai Kung is a beautiful place.

It's only natural that we should spoil it.

Soon we will have bigger roads and an MTR line and Sai Kung will be Mong Kok, only spelled differently.

Hey, Mongkok has some really nice places to live - Kadoorie Hill, Tin Kwong Do (near KGV School) are very nice areas away from the madness.

It makes you wonder whether someone very senior in Government has been promised a post-retirement job with the developer. I'm just being cynical as I can't see that happening with an open and transparent Government.

Sellenger - I was in a taxi with four other people, not sure why you assumed I was in a private car. I don't generally sit in an empty car and I have to say it was and is mainly public transport that blocks this road. The MTR building makes no difference to the traffic on such a small road it is all the buses and coaches to Ocean Park and all the buses from the housing estates and schools. The road is far too small to handle the amount of traffic along that road. The tour coaches then sit with their idling engines further along the road which makes the pollution even worse. A bit like the beach in Repulse Bay really - does anyone know when the idling engines law will take affect?

Sai Kung previously had a hotel. It's still sitting empty. So why shouldn't another one open...
