how come? is it the water in hong kong? i keep colours separate from whites. i used a good detergent (tide liquid). now i use the washing ball (a good one not a dodgy chinese copy). somehow all my white socks turn grey and my white shirts don't so white. and my white bed linen too.

I also have a decent washing machine - front load Whirlpool.

anyone with the same problem? what do you do to keep your whites white?

Our white laundry is still white. We use Dreft, which is a very "gentle" detergent that we get at Gateway.

May be something in your building pipes.

I occasionally slip a sachet of whitener in with the load, which really brightens whites and prevents/removes any dinginess, UV yellowing, rust marks etc. I get them from CitySuper.

My late mother in law always used to do an extra rinse for whites; she reckoned that, rather than the detergent she used, was what kept them looking good for years. I follow her advice and it tends to work.
