Would just like to find out from the rest of you, do you prefer shopping at welcome or the wet market? I don't eat too exotic food, so welcome is usually ok for me. seems cheaper too.
but i'm staying next to bowrington market (cwb) for a while. do you think wet market food is fresher/cheaper than welcome, or does it not matter either ways.
thankds!

Wet market food is definitely cheaper, fresher and has more variety.

You've got to take a look to see if locals make up much of the customers or Gweilaos. If the latter, it is more like going to the "organic" stores.

Vegetables and fruits could be cheaper in a wet market but it depends on the stall. However, if given a choice, I would buy seafood from the wet market definitely - much cheaper and fresher!!! With the same price you pay for a pack of shrimp (often peeled and everything in supermarket), you can get a larger amount at the market.
Generally, do look out for things sold in a basket (for veg/fruits) and steel plates (for fish), those are sold by the 'plate' and you would be likely to get some deals there. I discovered a stall in CWB that sells discounted veggies (slightly mature but not old): $5 per basket, and each basket has either: 2 zucchini, 4 small eggplants, big bunch of mushrooms etc. Would love to tell you where it is but it's kind of hidden tho.
