I have a house guest staying with me and she has an old photocopied plot map and some sketchy details of where her great grandfather was buried in the above mentioned cemetry. Is there a curator, guided walks or any historical information about the cemetry? It seems a big place and I am not sure how long it will take to find the plot without a little help.
Thanks

Hi Midwife
There is a local Historian and writer that does guided walks of the Happy Valley Cemetry and other places in HK. He will also do private tours you can find out all the information on his website info@jasonwordie.com. If anyone can find your plot Jason can

Thank you cassy27, we had a plot map and actually found the site today! It was our house guests great, great grandfather. What an interesting place we found it to be.

It IS indeed an interesting place. I have spent many many hours wandering through the cemeteries at HV, Stanley and Sai Wan. Back in 2002 I was talking to an elderly friend in Melbourne and she told me that her father (who dies in southern China in 1934) was buried in the HV cemetery, so I said I would look for the gravesite and send her a photo. After several visits and many hours of looking (distracted by lots of other interesting things I came across) I decided to visit the on-site caretaker instead. He was very helpful, finding the right register for the period and locating the section in which the gravesite was to be found. He then maked the spot on a sketch of the cemetery, and it was all downhill from there. Actually it was all uphill because the grave was located at almost the highest point towards the back of the cemetery.

There is also a very interesting Jewish cemetery further up Blue Pool Road.
