Anyone been through Heathrow Airport lately ?

Hi, I will be traveling with my family and new baby back to N.Ireland next month (June) and will have a 5 hour stop over in Heathrow before catching a connection to Belfast, lately I have heard that processing in Heathrow is taking an average 4 hours and given that we need to collect our luggage and recheck it in a different terminal I wonder is 5 hours enough time ? has anyone been through Heathrow lately and how long did you have to wait ? Thanks in advance.

There is also the possibility that your flight will not arrive on schedule, which you need to think about. If it were my decision, I would be buying flexible tickets for the flight to NI.

Hi, Many thanks for the replies.


The problem is I have already checked and we are on the earliest BA flight and the latest BMI flight so guess we will just have to try and make the connection, fingers crossed, biggest worry is we are making the trip with an 8 month old baby so running to gates or sleeping in the terminal are not really options we can take....wish us luck lol

The Heathrow website shows a "minimum" 90 minute connection time between Terminal 5 and Terminal 1.



I find it hard to believe that 5 hours would not be enough, maybe in very rare situations, a security scare or something.

Heathrow is an absolute nightmare at immigration and fast track should be named slow track. Cathay check your bags straight through so no need to collect and then recheck your luggage in again. You can then take the internal bus to your next term terminal which saves having to wait for hours on end in the immigration line. Check that BA can do the same if so it saves so much time and hassel espcially if you have a tight connection and a small baby.
