How to clean baby's toys?

ORIGINAL POST

The bub is almost 4 months and starting to chew on his toys. How do I clean them? For soft toys, I'm thinking of throwing them into the washing machine using his baby laundry detergent. But what about those that have fabric exteriors but you can't dunk in water as they've got some electronic component? And do I need to use Dettol?

Thanks!

Check the tags.

Most of ours seem to say wipe with a damp cloth, or machine washable.

For things that can be soaked, you can try the same steralising tablets that are used for bottles http://www.milton-tm.com/

I would avoid dettol or other strong detergents.

I just use Pigeon's baby bottle cleanser for everything baby uses to eat or play. It's kills bacteria, and is edible, has worked for both babies like wonders. I would avoid Dettol too.

You can mix a bowl of baby bottle cleanser, and wipe it clean. Unless you have a dog like me, I wouldn't be TOO worried about toys having to sterilize, once they are teething and putting things in their mouth, it's impossible to watch them every second. Mine likes to eat my sleeves (not very clean after a day at work), and he now likes to eat his shoes after he's walked around in the walker. Can only try our best!

You can buy Milton spray from Bumps to Babes. It kills germs and is edible.

For cloth toys with an electrical component I'd use a bowl of warm water with laundry detergent, wring out the cloth well and scrub, then place on sunny windowsill to dry.

Personally, I'm with Katetam - try not to get too hung up about it. You can only try and I know I certainly wouldn't want my children to feel constantly restricted. I prefer to let them get on and explore, which is what being a toddler is all about.

hey singapore-mom,

yes it is! it's the detergent to wash milk bottles, toys and vegetables (from major supermarkets, just like the pigeon brand. i used pigeon but found it too diluted. the tollyjoy one goes a longer way....

hope there hasn't been any health advisory about the dangers of using tollyjoy brand as your post seems to imply?? do share if so!

Hi,

recently I found a excellent organic spray cleansers in HK, named GreenShield. It is the only USDA organic Laundry Detergents and Spray Cleansers in the world. the item called All Purpose spray cleanser has Patented formula to kill Mildews and mold of baby toys etc. You can call the importer to see where you can buy.
