Looking to follow the well worn path to Xian to see the Entombed Warriors.
Any recommendations on hotels would be much appreciated.
Templted to just go with the 5 star standards but keen to hear if there is anything more boutique/ better value.

I suggest you stay in Sofitel at XinCheng Square. The location is perfect. Shangarala at XiGaoXin is also beautiful, but far from downtown.
The terra-cotta warrior is the must of Xi'an. Others like City Wall, Shaanxi Provincial Museum is also worth to go. If you need more detail travel information about Xi'an, feel free to contact me. My email is tomicq@163.com

Hi - thanks for your advice. I stayed at the Sofitel and it was a very good base. We were in Xi'an for two full days.
We did the following which we enjoyed very much
- terra-cotta warriors
- Ban Po museum
- shaaangxi cultural museum
- Muslim quarter
- bike ride around the city wall
- ancient street
- wild goose pagoda
I would recommend all of these. My main tip would be to make sure you only go in taxis with meters! A little research on where you are going to eat would also pay dividends as our dining experiences on the fly were a little hit and miss!
