London or NYC?

In short, I have 3 options with work:

1) Relocate to London

2) Relocate to NYC

3) Stay here

No. 3 isn't really an option as I have been here for a few years already and would like to try somewhere new.

I am a 30 yr old Brit working in the financial sector and I have never lived in either London or NY so would really appreciate some advice on comparisons between the two in terms of the usual; cost of living, nightlife, dating, transportation, housing, shopping, ease of getting taxis (silly i know but i'm used to it here!), making friends, getting to and from the airport, office culture and anything else that would be useful to know.

Thank you in advance!

I must be a bit old fashioned. Surely anybody who has this sort of choice to make has the ability to do their own research.

i would think getting opinions from people who have lived in either city would be part of said research...

NYC is much more interesting to me, but then again I grew up in North America. London is nice and all but the constant gloomy weather is a real downer. I liked the food better in NYC. I enjoy NA sports (hockey, basketball, baseball, football) much more than UK sports (football, cricket, rugby). Cost of living is much higher in London. I also find transportation in London not as efficient. As for work, both are similar.

Thanks for all of the replies. To clarify, I am actually a female.

I still have a few more weeks to decide but am still stuck between NY and Ldn. I think the reason I would choose London is because it would be nice to work back in the UK for a while and be closer to family and friends. I am quite attached to my friends here and I know the chances of them passing through London (or even visiting) would be higher than if I went to NYC. Also makes it easier for me to come back to visit. In NYC, I literally know no one.

Anyway, that shouldn't be a huge factor I know....

A single female with a British accent works just as well! I have visited NYC loads of times but never lived there. Lived in London for a few years recently and found it very unfriendly - really difficult to make friends or even friendly acquantainces. It was almost as if people felt their 'friends' box was full already. having lived here where everyone is very open to meeting and making new friends I found it tough.

In my book it is no contest. You know the UK - give NYC a chance.
