The need to send a note is to ascertain whether you were the one driving. Once you have admitted to that, they'll send you a notice of prosecution. They can't prosecute (yet) since they can't be sure you were driving.


Have not had this occur on bike but in a car.

My experience has been exactly as p.mason describes. My husband received a notice asking him to identify the driver who was recorded as speeding at a time & date specified. We both signed the form stating that I was the driver and then a few days later I received a prosecution notice in the mail. Same here as in England.
