I just moved to Hong Kong and would like to buy some nice summer clothes for day wear (not too casual) at good prices (I know now is not a sale time for summer clothes though). Any recommendation please?

Check out Prince Edward's Ladies Market - its better then Mong Kok's ladies market. Some great shops, nice jersey dresses and better then the mass production stuff at Zara and H&M.

You can consider Mayeelok in Central if you want to find something in nice fabrics and unique designs. It's a nice little boutique selling their own design clothes. I know they're now on clearance sale. Both on the rack and tailor make are available. Check out their web is www.mayeelok.com.

Hello ladies! I'm having difficulty finding summer dress styles that i'm used to finding from back home. The local shops here aren't really my style and the designer wear isn't really in my budget either.. not looking for Zara mainstream but rather some shops that sell unique/ trendy clothing? Any suggestions would be amazing! Thank you!!

Hi Etienne,

I have found the same thing but there are some really lovely little boutiques up around the soho area which you can have a look at.

One just opened up last week, called Alexa & Tod. They are selling womens and menswear. I was at their boutique opening and they've got some pretty 'amazing' things in there. I spoke to the owner and she said that it is soley Australian designers only - there are some really beautiful pieces in there and not too expensive at all. She had a pretty good price range in there. My bf actually bought a couple of really cool tees in there, haven't seen these in HK yet and i managed to pick up a great little summer dress made of silk.

Great little store which i would recommend to anyone.

Hope that helps!

I go to Shenzhen -- Lo Wu. There is a wonderful fabric market and the tailors will make it up. They will copy existing items and also from photos and even drawings if you are precise about detail. You will need to find one with pretty good english--most do speak english so this is not hard. The Tailor will tell you how much fabric you will need for each thing you want made. You should plan to bargain for the cost of both the fabric and the tailor (first time usually). Some things don't always look like what you think they will. Some of the things I have purchased have been less good. But others have been wonderful and they are inexpensive and you get what you want in the colour you want. I have found that things that are more tailored (like suits and skirts and jackets are perfect the first time). Dresses that are a bit more unstructured have been a bit more difficult--arms holes a bit small, waist a bit high (wearable and not noticeable, but a little less comfortable). But now that I have been a couple of times to the same tailor these problems are all sorted out as she has gotten to know what I like and how I like things to fit. I've even taken photos of vintage suits, which they have copied. It takes about a week to collect your things or they will post them to you--I usually go to try on as you can get adjustments made on the same day (though this has been infrequent) and I like to go.

Down side to Shenzhen Lo Wo is the 4 lower floors and the people shouting Missy Missy at you to get you to buy DVD, Handbag, Watch... It is easier if you go with with a friend.

On another note--if you are having trouble finding shoes that fit, there are a couple of places in Admiralty and one in TST that will make (including copy) shoes for you that fit your feet. This is a bit more expensive though.

Good Luck!

There is a new boutique opened in Causeway Bay on Pak sha road called Blue Sea Blue, worth checking for summer dresses, tops or Kaftans mostly made of silk and cotton. They are on sale this weekend.
