Is my agency acting illegally or just being really tight?
I'm registered with 2 agencies for fit modeling work. Over the last 2 weeks, I did a 5 day fitting job with a major clothing brand and today when I enquired to my agent how long the payment settlement period is, she said that:
On the monday following the 60th day after the last day of the job, I am to contact the agency and arrange for my cheque to be prepared, which will be prepared the following friday. I can then come to collect it from the office. If I want a direct transfer of funds, I must pay $30 fee.
This means that for a job at the end of Feb, I won't get paid til the 7th of May.... :O
2 questions. Is it normal for an employment agency to withhold payment to a worker so long and is it legal for an agency to demand the worker pays a fee to receive the pay due to them.
From what i understand from the other agency (not worked for them yet), payment is usually made immediately after the last day of the job and received within 5 days.
Thank you in advance...a little cash strapped so rather shocked to hear this today!
