HI there,
With my 1st and 2nd pregnancy i expelled it naturally within 20 mins after having baby. This was back home in the states tho... I didnt know they have you get a shot out here... thats sorta odd to me.

If you breastfeed immediately, the uterus will contract and expell the placenta. The hospital could also give you a shot of oxytocin to help expell it.

I also didn't have any injection.
I just remember the midwife waiting there after I tried to breastfeed and then as I rested it came out - no major problem.

I have had the injection with all 5 of mine, and to be honest I have not noticed it once. I think they usually give you it as the head is coming out, and its so quick it really does go un noticed. I also think if the placenta is not out within an hour of the delivery the doctors will start getting panicky, It certainly shouldn't take a few hours. Also they don't usually 'tug', as in hard, more of a gentle pull to help things along.
