Now i tried with 3rd one. Checked ovulation by calculating ovulation and my cycle then went for the day it said was more likely to have a boy. So, we got pregnant first try with a boy. haha.

My first two was one month of trying and getting pregnant. And I'm trying again, but I was not successful this month in trying. HAHAH.

"normal fertility" is considered within 6 months of trying getting pregnant. SO if you have been trying for more than six months, then some doctors may say that you are having "difficulty."

How long have you been trying? Are you timing, or just going with the flow?

10 months for 1st pregnancy but MC

5 months for 2nd pregnancy

Even before we were trying for the 3rd pregnancy !

For the 1st time around, I was on the pill for 10 years before... For the 3rd time I didn't want to start birth control again since we wanted them close in age and because of long time to wait for the 1st one. I only had my periods once after the end of the Breastfeeding and... there I was pregnant again !

Am on the pill again and would like to stop before the end of the year, hoping to be expecting our 3rd one for my 30th birthday, but don't know what to expect this time, 1 year waiting or pregnant at 1st try ???

hkchoichoi,

I only started last month but period came two days ago. Still, happy that i had a 28 day cycle after 10 years on the pill, when i was young, i had 6 week cycles. Trying to time it this month with the Clearblue ovulation kit. Got seriously confused with the temp thing last month, i was inundated with info...just trying the ovulation kit around day 12 or 13 this month...the kit says start on day 14 but i'm worried i will miss it. Still fumbling my way through this TTC thing, been reading books and using the Net but still only getting a rough idea! I know it's too early to wish but still hope it'll be this coming month, not even bothered about what the sex is as long as it is healthy! :) Baby dust to all that are TTC!

Another question...some books say to not be intimate every night near the time of ovulation as it makes the woman 'dry'....i heard that the more the better. Which is true?

Yeah dont have sex before ovulation starts. It decreases his sperm count which gives a less chance. As for making the woman dry from too much i wouldnt worry about it as long as your husband works you up each time. Sorry i dont know how to put that any better so forgive if thats too much.

So i guess you could say "After ovulation, the more the better!"

good luck and Tons of baby dust your way!!!!

I like the book "Taking Charge of Your FErtility" By Toni Wexler. Most friend's I've recommended it to who were having problems timing got it right after reading the book and all went on to have healthy babies. Worth a look.

the general recommended pattern for sexual activity - every OTHER day up to ovulation and post. Generally sperm live a bit longer than eggs (you got 24 hours with an egg) so if you go every other day you have a good shot.

Now , most women find that ovulation day, it's a bit more "fun" and you don't dry out - because your body is actually primed for having a baby. You have more natural lubricant, and you're more in the mood...so I wouldn't worry about that aspect. Just don't lower your husband's count by trying to do it every day.

HKCC, my dr actually told me that I should do it as soon as I see a line on the OPK. Not before because the sperms don't live that long and then I would have lost the greatest sperm count from hubby if I attempted to do the "deed" before ovulation. He said to not do anything before ovulation and just do it on the day I see a line on my OPK and everyday for at least 2 days after.

I don't think he is right from what I've read and I agree with the every OTHER day. We tried 2 months with the OPKs WORKING only on the day and everyday for 3 days after but it didn't work. Last month, we decided to try the every OTHER day but then as soon as I detected my ovulation, we only did the deed once and hubby went to China for work. If I fall pregnant this cycle (fingers crossed), I will be pro EVERY other day method. Hee hee!

Babeez, it took me 3 months with my first and I'm still trying with my 2nd since September (minus 2 months break because I was on antibiotics).

My sister took 3 months with her first and 6 months with her second.

My friend took 3 months with her first and 9 months with her second.

Another friend took 4.5 years and then decided to abort because she had some "issues".

My dr says he does not refer a couple to a specialist unless they've been trying for a year.

interesting doctor...party line is every other day - and OPK's are often late to the party - meaning they predict it after it's happen - in that case it's 24 hours too late. and afterwards - for get it - there is nothing to fertilize - egg is already down and gone.

you increase your chances BEFORE - because sperm can live for almost 72 hours (but generally less) and so you've got more chance if you can time it before.

I've been very lucky and gotten pregnant on my first or second shot -my husband thinks it's his "super sperm" and I think it's just good timing. HAHA

According to the instructions of my OPKs, once you see a line, ovulation is meant to occur within 12-36 hours after. So the theory is, if you do the "deed" after you see the line, you'll definitely catch your ovulation.

But he's a bit of a funny doctor because he said to me that if we did the "deed" before we see the line then it's pointless because the sperms would be dead before I ovulate. I thought sperms don't die after a day and can usually live for days. But anyhow....

It means the safest bet is still to do it every other day. I haven't fallen pregnant with his theory so obviously I'm not listening anymore. With my first, I did the every other day method and it worked.

Thanks everyone, I guess i will try the every other day method this month then. I was just always under the presumption, the more the better...hmm, bought my OPK's and Robitussin and can't wait till mid-month. You try not to be hopeful but that's virtually impossible!

first one took 2 wks

second (current pregnancy)took 8 months (3 months of proper trying with OPKs and Robitussin)

because my periods were not too regular, every time i was late i would hope, and then test, and then be disappointed, even though i had sort of convinced myself that i had some symptoms such as sore boobs etc. got to a point where this last time i just refused to test because i was so sure it would be negative (no symptoms whatsoever)....i ended up testing 10 days late - positive.

however the weird thing is that all my pregnancy symptoms are different from last time, so the signs i was relying on to tell me i was pregnant weren't there. first time round my boobs hurt the whole time and never stopped growing. this time round - nothing....except tiredness, and funnily enough, mini contractions (even though it's only 11 wks). luckily, no morning sickness with either. so girls, you just can't tell what signs your body is going give you to tell you you're pregnant, first, second or even thrid time around!

definitely had two different pregnancies in terms of symptoms and feelings as well.

but my one funny symptom is DROOl. I start drooling on my pillow in my sleep! I had it both pregnancies - the second one my massive drool is what prompted me to test, because we had only tried once and I hadn't on expected being pregnant. (besides the fact that I had been angry at my husband for near a month.)

Squiggles, I am going to try Robitussin this month. Did you take it every day or just near the time of ovulation and was it just one dose?
