Hi mummies....do you have high blood pressure during your pregnancy? I am into my 4th month, and am having high blood. Gynae has prescribe me with medicine, but i m still worry. Gynae has assured me the medicine is safe for baby, but being a new mum, i m still worry.

Please share your experiences and advice. Thanks.

Hi Cara, your last sentence does struck me indeed it's true. haahah.... I guess I just need to hear some experiences to know that it's safe and am not alone. Then, i think i can put this matter at a relax mod.

Currently, i m only taking one type of medicine per day. So, guess not as severe. Can I know what's your reading like for the gynae to determine you have high blood pressure? My case, it's more towards the bottom reading which can range between 85-90. To the gynae, this is a concern already, though i've been reading the internet that this is only the normal high range. However, i also believe i have the 'white-coat' symptom (think that's what you call it) whereby my pressure goes up when seeing a doctor. My measurement at gynae has ALWAYS been high, above 130 on the top and above 90 on the bottom. Whereas for my own home reading, the top hardly goes up 130, and the bottom always less than 90. So, just today, gynae and I discuss and feel that my home reading should be giving some accuracy to an extent.

I am also asked to monitor my home reading throughout the day, after activity and after good rest.

Do you measure your blood pressure after activity too? eg, cooking, hang clothes, just return home.....

Hi,

My baby was induced at 39 weeks - on that very afternoon, I had my routine check-up and my doc said I had mild pre-eclampsia (protein in urine plus high bp). Since it was already 39 weeks, doctor said we would take the baby out before the condition started to cause fetal distress.

Before that, for all my check-ups, my bp was normal but on the high end of normal. There were times when the nurse took the bp twice to make sure and would often ask if I have rushed to the clinic. I definitely have the whitecoat problem - the 2nd time is always higher! I actually stress about having my bp taken!

I am abit concerned about what will happen when we finally have no. 2. Post-delivery, I had problems with buying insurance for my baby because of this pre-eclampsia problem as the insurance company didn't know what that was! In the end I had to go to a doc of their choice for a check-up before the policy was approved.

Good luck with your pregnancy. Just stick to your doc's advice. Cara listed some symptoms you might experience for pre-clampsia but you know what, I never had any of them! So just take care and rest lots!

Hi Cara and Wheelymate,

I definitely feel better after hearing some personal similar experiences. I will definitely watch out those sypmtoms that you (Cara) has mentioned. I haven't been warn by gynae yet to take note of those. But luckily, i don't have those symptoms yet...though it does remind me, there was one time, much earlier in my pregnancy, i was sick and had this reflective, blury vision. but it was only shortly and went away. so it didn't occur to me that i need to mention to my doctor, as i gather i was sick with flu then, and perhaps, the office light was too strong. urm......

Wheelymate, i didn't think of the insurance part. but it's a good tips for me to take note in the future when we are ready to do so.

ok..i gather that this whitecoat problem is common among us who has tendency for high blood. ok...then, at least, i feel even more assure that my home reading can be considered relatively accurate, especially, i have brought my machine 3 times to compare with gynae's machine. mine machine in fact showed higer reading than hers.

Cara you are right. i do have more frequent visit to the gynae as compare to my other pregnant mum. it's such a choir, but guess no choice. recent 2 visits show that i have slight trace of protein in urine. i am hoping that my medicine, which i just started one week ago, will control my pressure, and i won't develop into pre-eclampsia.
