I took 400mcg per day of folic acid up until I was 12 weeks pregnant, when I switched to a multivitamin.

It is probably best to check with a doctor, but I was told that I didn't need to take anything other than folic acid to begin with.

I took a womens one a day multi vitamin with 400mg of Folic Acid, and the doctor told me that was enough.

Depends on where you are from and when you got the information, with my first child it was 400mcg then during my second pregnancy the recommended intake was increased to 600mcg.

I took "Elevit" which had 800mcg, I was told this was perfectly fine while pregnant.

Or you could get some of RDA of folic acid in the cereal you eat for breakfast. Weetabix is the best and is a healthy option for pregnant Mums and those TTC. Most cereals these days contain a certain amount of folic acid, even Coco Pops! (which I seem to be craving at the moment!!)

My drug of choice is Marmite -- rich in folic acid, but definitely an aquired taste!
