D&C

I would like to report on my D&C experience.


At 12:00PM, we went in to Matilda hospital, filled in some form, did some blood test (for confirming blood typ), weight check etc.


Went to the room 20minutes later, changed, got a viginal suppository to loosen up the cervix. Waited for 4 and a half hours to be finally carried into the theatre. They pushed the bed I was resting to the theater, and the blanket was on until I was knoked out with the anesthesia, which helped me feel relaxed, not too intruding.


The anesthesia was the most eye-opening experience. After the doctor gave me the injection, I felt a tingling sensation from foot to the neck, felt some bitter taste in my throat, and the next thing I knew was I was waken up by a nurse in a different room in 30 minutes. I have no memory whatsoever other than the bitter taste in my throat, and a second of freight when I felt I was going out.


After the operation, I waited for 4 hours in the room. Some rest, sandwitches and water three hours later, lots of blood pressure tests. My blood pressure didn't go up, so we had to wait longer than planned (Finally sent up to 95 and was let go.) Bleeding was much more than period, while I was in the hospital, but as soon as the gush of flood came out twice, bleeding became much milder.


Today, one day after the D&C, I am feeling quite dizzy, but basically no serious pain in abdomen. Got a call from Matilda, and found out the entire cost was about 13000HKD.


From the consultation with the Doctor before we agreed to do the D&C, the doctor told us the followings in responce to our questions:


1)the chance of becoming infertile because of D&C is absolutely ZERO.

2)the chance of concevigin after miscarriage do not increase after a miscarriage

3)50% of people do not conceive through IUI after trying 5 to 6 times

4)chance of miscarrying after the fist miscarriage do not change

5)Most likely the cause of this miscarriage is a chlomosomal disorder, and a one time thing.

6)if we wish, we can send the fetus to a test and pinpoint the cause, but is not a cost-effective measure after only one incident of miscarriage

7)can resume the IUI treatment again from the next period

8)I do not have another 5 years to try. If I don't conceive in a few years, the chance is almost zero.

9)using hormonal assistance for producing eggs do not decrease the quality of each egg

10)Not using hormonal treatment in IUI cycle is a waste of time.


I hope nobody on this forum has to go through D&C, but if you need to ask some question, please feel free to e-mail me. I don't know everything, and each case is different, but I may be able to share my experience to ease the fear and anxiety. I got a lot of support from friends through this forum, and felt much better afterwards, as I was a nervous wreck about this whole thing. I wish everyone the best of luck in your current attempt, and lots and lots and lots of baby dust to you!!!

Thanks sm and simplythebest. I feel much better now, though a bit empty, and feel like needing a good vacation, but at least I know I only have to wait for another cycle to start over again. Although it may be an old wife's tale, I do kind of believe the next time, I will have a better chance to carry to term. I am praying for all of you to produce a big fat round eggs in the next cycle, and will all fall pregnant! Lots of baby dusts to you all.

I have been running like 10K everyday this week, but yet, I cannot get rid of the fat around my stomach I have gained during the fertility treatment. During the treatment an my short pregnancy, I gained 3kg and now I am exactly at the same level. Why why why??? I have always had very flat stomach, and it is really strange... Can anyone advice???

Thanks for advice. I guess my hormone level is not yet the same as before, so the body thinks I need more fat. I guess I will wait and see how it goes next month. On the other hand, I kind of suspect maybe this fat is something of a head start if I get pregnant again! Trying to look at the positive side... The only negative I suppose is that I spend more money on bigger size clothes on top of all the cost for fertility treatment!!!!

Are you still in 2ww, or have you got the result??? Haven't you been on injectibles on this IUI? I keep on hearing different types of ingectibles, too. Mine is just a tiny little liquid in a injection, which can be set in a gun, and just press the botton, and that's it. Some people say they had to mix the medicine with water, and the needle was huge and there was no convenient equipment like the gun cartridge I use.

As for the weight gain, I know how frustrating it is!!! How much have you gained? I just leaned that I even gained half a kilo more yesterday after 3 days of 10K running and 2 classes of hard yoga. I just don't understand, but I'll wait and see. Am going for a long awaited holiday from Friday!!! To Chiva-som, and we'll get a lot of pumpering with daily massage and yoga/taichi/etc. exercises. Keeping my fingers crossed for your next IUI. (I havent got my cycle back yet:-(

Hey MM Good to hear about your trip. I am taking a break off medications this months and just monitoring through a day 2 / us.


As for weight gain ... talk about it... I think its all due to the medication. I didnt have a D&C but have gained 8kg since I started treatment in February. Its a hell of a lot I know... But since getting pg is on top of my head I have stopped worrying about it too much. When we do get PG we gain weight anyway ...so I think it that way.. but ofcourse have been doing mild workouts and watching my food.
