jap hair straightening

i know they say it's best to avoid any chemical hair treatments while pregnant -- but what is everyone's view on this? i desperately need to get my hair straightened again otherwise it's uncontrollable frizz. my worry is that, unlike a semi-perminant hair colour, this jap straightening technique uses harsher chemicals. anyone done this while preggers?

I know what you're going through, but I was advised by several hairdressers as well as my doctor to stay away from it whilst I was pregnant. So I treated myself to getting my hair blowdried 1-2 times a week. The decision is yours.

I personally couldn't face sitting for that long while pg, and smelling the chemicals was a really unappealing notion. My hair dresser recommended that I wait until the bb is 6 months. Something having to do with pregnancy and what it does to hair. I'm sure it'll fall out after 4 months which is probably 1/2 of the reason. I can't wait for my bad hair days to be over!

Sorry I was not paying attention. I was 6.5 months, the place I went to then has since closed!

hi Sashimi Girl

I had my hair straightened when I was 5 months pregnant and my little baby has turned out fine.

Dear Sashimi Girl,

My book on the Dos and Donts for Pregnancy say that you can get your hair permed after the first three months. I assume the thing applies to straigthening - because the chemicals are the same just different procedures.
