I'm planning for pregnancy next year. Everything's ready and I am healthy and in good condition. But I have problem with this "Yeast Infection" which bothers me the third time this year. The Doc told me it's not anything serious, and it's caused by weak immune system... In fact are there ways to prevent it? I really wish to cure it thoroughly before I get pregnant.

Stop eating bread, sugar and other yeast products. It makes a huge difference to combating this problem.

Also start on a good nutritional supplement system to clear out your body and get your immune system up and running.

Thank you very much for your advice. In fact, I haven't changed my diet a bit lately. Just wondering what could have caused the problem: tampons? wearing pants too tight? or sexual intercourse?

The most common reason for a yeast infection is a weakened immune system. If you have been taking any sort of antibiotics this past year, that could be contributing to your rise in yeast in your "privates." Also - diabetes and HIV are also common immune suppressors that could also trigger a yeast infection.

you can reduce your risk by wearing cotton underwear, and avoiding anything too tight that can hold in warmth and moisture. (the yeast loves both of those conditions.) douching, feminine sprays, or talc down there also sways the normal bacterial balance there so avoiding those things is also helpful. You can also stop using an IUD. (if you are using one.)

You can also eat some products with LIVE lactobacillus which can help prevent yeast infections.

Finally, you should throw out any old bathing suits or underwear that was worn during your infection as it can still hold the yeast and cause a resurge.

you can find more information about yeast infections at www.webmd.com

Actually I eat yogurt daily too...should have consumed enough lacto. Difficult to cut down intake of sugar, maybe I have to control my sweet tooth then. Do you consult the doc every time the infection occurs? Can it be cured naturally without medication?

Nicher -

make sure your yogurt has LIVE lactobacillus. Yakult claims that it has several thousand of units in their small bottle. Many yogurts are pasteurized so their lactobacillus are often killed off.

Oh ic. Thank you hkchoichoi and Scot. I will try out your suggestions. And try drinking yakult every day. Any particular food I should avoid? Carbohydrates? Or maybe take more veggies?

I have been taking that and have not had yeast infection for a while. This was recommended by my naturopath. The problem is you can't find it in HK. I ordered it online from the States.

I just saw the doc over the weekend. He suggested me to stop consuming sugar for the coming 3 months. And exactly as you all said: consume lactobacillus.

VVV, I couldn't go into the website you recommended. Is that a kind of prescription that cures Yeast Infection?

Yeast is nuisance but is not a serios STD, the treatment options above are very good. In addition when you have an infection, after you have washed your underwear, microwave them as washing does not always remove them. This is also good advice for socks when you have athletes foot.
