I have no idea about the private cost - I went HK public system all the way and it cost less than 1K start to finish including scans, tests, extra tests, prenatal exercise classes, delivery, a 7 day stay in hospital etc etc.... you do have to wait around for appointments in the public system but other than that I can't fault the service I received.
Many people opt for a combination and find a doctor for regular appointments and scans etc but deliver at a public hospital.

There's a post further down about costs too.

Congratulations on your pregnancy Naraya! I am doing a combination of private and public consultations. My private Ob. Gyn. charges around HK$800 per appointment and so far the public ones have cost nothing.
The main difference between the public and private system are the soft skills. The doctors and midwives at Tsan Yuk (public) Hospital are very competent although it always takes them a little while to get up to speed with my file (this is natural, since you do not see the same doctor every time). My private doctor is very thorough and spends 30-40 minutes with me each appointment, which I find reassuring since this is my first pregnancy. There are also more 'optional extras' like pregnancy vitamins and 4D scans on offer.

Congratulations on the pregnancy.
For someone that is not having insurance and wants to use the public system we offer an option where you can do all the routine blood tests and the actual birth with the government system and as stated above, the cost with them is less than 1000 HKD.
We then would do all the routine antenatal checkups that do not involve the scans and the blood tests (apart from talking and giving information this is routinely to listen to the heartbeat, check blood pressure and urine and feel the lie of the baby). The cost of each visit with us is 200 HKD and each session is 30 - 40 minutes.
We also offer antenatal classes of 6 weeks and the cost of that is 2800 HKD, including one private session to cover birth plan and private preferences, based on where you give birth.
The main advantage of doing it combined like this is that you dont have to wait as much as in the government system for each appointment - and you get a continuous care from the same midwife the whole time. THis is often continued until after the birth and we tend to stay in contact with our families for a long time.
In any case, if this helps you with planning the budget if a combined option is something for you, - this is what we can do.
Hope this helps,
Warmly,
Hulda

Naraya - if you would like to deliver at one of the governmnt hospitals, I would recommend Queen Mary Hopital in Pokfulam.
In order to deliver at QMH, you must first register at Tsan Yuk Hospital in Sai Ying Pun. Get their number from directory enquiries and give them a call. You will need to take some documentation with you when you register such as a copy of your partners HKID card.
God Luck!!
