Short Cervix

ORIGINAL POST
Posted by Kimmi 19 yrs ago
Im 25 weeks pregnant and my OB/GYN informed me yesterday I have a short cervix 2.8cm. I was told no exercising, no sex, no sqatting, no lifting (including carrying shopping), no housework, dont walk too far and after lunch to sit with feet up for at least 3 hours!. If I dont do this I could go into very early labour. This is very worring and upsetting news for me as Im a very active fit person. I also have a very active 3 year old and we love to go out together everyday keeping busy. My OB/GYN informed me now its time to get a helper. Has anyone else been through the same as me. Would appreciated any other experiences, advice and information. MANY THANKS

hi kimmi

i am sorry to learn that you are going through a tough time. you're very right, it IS very worrying and upsetting.

i know it is tough to be on bedrest when you already have children and are active with them and in keeping fit. i have been in your shoes. unfortunately, i gave birth at 26 weeks and while my children lived, it was very painful to have them in the nicu for three months.

there are lots of websites for mums on bedrest that include ideas on what activities you can do with children.

my son was two when i was on bedrest...i do know to some extent what you are going through.

you can send me a private email if you want to talk more.

did they talk to you about a cerclage?

Hi abitnaive thanks for the reply, is cerclage the stitch? I think my OB isnt too concerned with that at the mo, he's just going to keep a close eye on me and if any changes, we may have to discuss this. Does the bed rest really help?. Im just thinking if anythings going to happen it will. Im going to just take it easy and pray that I can go beyond 34 weeks, I hope this is possible. Please can I have info on the websites you mentioned. Thanks again

hi

i don't know them off by heart but one is called sidelined or sidelines. if you do a google search pregnancy bedrest i am sure you will come up with lots of great sites.

yes, the cerclage is the stitch. glad that your dr isn't too concerned. yes, i do believe the bedrest does help. if anything you have peace of mind knowing you are doing all you can.

all best

Hi Kimmi, I am sorry to hear about your news. This is my first pregnancy so cannot really help you. But I wish you the best of luck that you will deliver as late as possible. Fingers crossed for you!!

And yes, get a helper fast! If you don't want a stay-in maid then go for a cleaning lady. They can do cleaning, laundry and ironing etc. This one charges on per visit basis. I haven't used them personally but it's an option for me later. I got their leaflet through my post (delivered to everyone in my apartment complex). Check them out http://www.sparklemaids.com.hk/ Hope this helps!

Since you cannot lift anything heavy (invluding your 3 year old of course), give plenty of hugs to your 3 year old. Do try to relax for now.

And all the best!!

Sunny
