any good news with IUI?

Just had my first IUI with continous injections to stimulate folicles. Don't know what to expect over the next 2 weeks. Still feel very uncomfortable due to tenderness in my ovaries. Don't want to get my hopes up to high. Has anyone here had much success with IUI?

Thanks so much Tillu. Good luck to you too. I remember reading that your husband had low motility and took Proxeed. Does it also work for low morphology of the sperm? Did you need a prescription for that one!

Proxeed was prescribed by the Dr. and its heps to improve the motality but doesn't know how it effects morphology.

Good luck

Hi,

My friend had IUI 7 times!!! the husband doesn't like IVF due to religious belief, so she has no choice but to do IUI over and over. Finally she got luck on the 7th times with twin boys, though she changed doctor on that.

What can men do to improve sperm morphology???

I had a terrible time with my previous doctor because the secretaries mucked us about on so many occassions. So, we decided to change to Dr Ho. We've been very pleased with the service and general attitude overall.

Candy... who's your current doctor?

I also had very bitter experience with the admn staff with my previous Dr with whom I spend almost HKD 45,000.00 in three months. I also changed to Dr. Ho

Tillu.... are you talking about Dr So's admin staff?

No I were with Dr Doo. Dr Doo is a good dr but was not happy with his admn staff

I'm also going for my first IUI next week and also don't know what to expect. Does the process itself painful in any way? I hope everything goes well and good luck to everyone going thru the same thing.

xox 20 yrs ago
Narnia, the procedure itself is not painful. It's just like a pap smear. There is quite a bit of discomfort and nausea during the injections prior to the insemination. I didn't like the feeling at all, but it's all worth it if it works. Good luck!

No, what's the dye test? I'm on Clomid and seem to be reacting to it quite well. Will be going in for the injection on Wed. Oh, I also had the flu shot today so hope I don't react badly to that!

yes.... definitely go through all the tests before IUI! IUI would be successful if tubes are blocked.

Narnia, rest up as much as you can. You want to give the embryo a nice chance to implant... First time I went to a rock concert 10 days DPO and jumped up and down, did dozens of sit ups, and then had the car impact, not sure which of these did it, but this third time I was was told by my TCM to be ever so careful with respect up and down violent movement and pressure on my abdomen. I'm sure in most other women it would be OK, but when you go through so much trouble why take the risk... Good Luck!!!

Hi, I had 3 IUIs before but still not successful. I'm now thinking of changing doctors. I read a lot of good things about Dr HO but a bit confused as to which 'Ho' are referring to? Do you mean Dr Phillip Ho or Dr Clement Ho? Can you give me his address too? Just the bldg name will do. Also, I got all these referral name just from the web. Anyone had successful experience with them?

My doctor didn't put me on clomid since I ovulate normally. I'm actually not against but just wondering if most people are put on clomid to increase the chance for IUIs?

Hi Simplythebest,

I have been out of the loop for a long time, and came back to this site to find out you are indeed pregnant!!! Congratulations. I am now doing my 3rd IUI.

I think the reason for Clomid, even for women who are ovulating regularly, is to encourage production of a second (and possibly third) egg, which just increases your chances.

With Clomid and 2 IUI's (usually at ~22 hours and then at 41 hours after the egg release injection) the odds of pregnancy may be as much as 2-3 times what your normal odds are.

Well my 1st attempt at IUI unfortunately failed. Got my periods, so feeling kind of down about things. Oh well... will try again this month.

LJC : I'm with Dr Phillip Ho too. I think he's very good and very effiecient.

Congratulations Simplythebest! Your news gives me some hope for me.

Hi xox, I am sorry to hear that it didn't happen this time. Are you trying this cycle as well??? I know, this trying again is hard, but once you try again, and on another cycle, you will feel much better. Try and do something fun, if you could. I'm with Dr. Phillip Ho, too.

Simplythebest, I am glad you got my message. I find hope in you that you had the third time luck, and thanks for thinking about me. I have a question for you...I am on GonalF for every cycle, but you have been put on clomid. Is it the one you put into your nose? Or Injectibles? Do you know what makes Dr decide to put someone on clomid and another GonalF. Mine is unexplained, too, other than I am in late thirties....

And congrats to everyone who's preggy. Keep us posted and give us information! For all who are trying, lots of baby dust to you. (sorry, since I have been away for a while, haven't remembered all the names...)

xox Sorry for your disappointment it's hard i've been there myself. I always say to women on this thread to hang in there for a few cycles as it does sometimes take a cycle or two to find the right balance of drugs for you. It's not an exact science every women is different and the balance is so important as it is what creates good quality eggs. It took me quite a few cycles to get pregnant but i know of others where it only took a couple. Try to stay positive relaxed and stress free as theres are also big factors. All the best.

Simplythebest/XOX, thanks for the info. My doctor did give me injectibles every other day the week before IUI was done(usu in my lower tummy). My lining is kind of thin, barely pass the 8mm threshold so that's probably why my docotor didn't put me on clomid. I'm gonna have my 4th times sometime this week. Crossing my fingers.

Just found out today that my first IUI also ended up being negative with the blood test....

better luck next month. Sticking with Clomid and metformin next month but without all the monitoring coz doc will be out of town. Hopefully the joys of Christmas and holidays will take away the work stress coz that's what I'm blaming it on. Actually, I'm going to give Troy Sing a try...shouldn't do any harm, should it? Gotta keep a positive mindset. Thanks for all the support and encouragement here...actually, apart from my husband, I haven't told any one of my friends about what I'm going through so these forums are a real Godsend.

I was like you and never told my friends what i was going thru until i eventually fell pregnant. And i agree with you this forum is great and was a great comfort to me. All the best for next month may all your Christmas wishes come true!

Hi there Candy, MM & Narnia, looks like were all going through it. It took me as few days to get over the huge disappointment last month. I'm going to have my IUI tomorrow for the second time. Wish me luck! I'm kind of excited, but really don't want to get my hopes up high again. I'm also feeling so guilty for taking another day off work (which doesn't help). We must all try to stay positive. This website has been a real life saver for me, as I haven't told anybody what I'm going through. It's created a very good support network. Best of luck to everyone trying. xx

xox, Candy, and Narnia hang in there guys just keep going just another day. It's not always easy and it can be discouraging but just try to get thru each day. I went thru it for a year and am now 27.5 weeks pregnant and there were times when we wanted to give up the emitonal and finacial burden getting to us but we didn't and we were rewarded. I wish you all the best.

Hi Candy,

Definetely IVF percentage of success is higher, maybe by 20%. Anyone knows the percentage of IUI versus IVF? IUI is 10%, and IVF is 30%, correct me if i'm wrong, can't remember the exact percentage now.

Hurt? no, we can manage it, physical pain is nothing, we are strong. The hurt is when you failed, emotional part of it is the difficult part. IUI's failure is non comparable compared when you failed in IVF. It's like the end of the road. It takes more time to recover than a failed IUI. Don't let me discourage you, i would say, go for IVF if you have the money, it's worth giving it a try. After 1 or 2 IUI without luck, move to IVF.

Good luck to all of us.

Perthites 19 yrs ago
It really does depend but when i did IVF it was a 55% chance and i belive IUI is 15%. No IVF didn't hurt but i threw up afterwards.I'm sorry to say I didn't get pregnant thru IVF and yes it was VERY expensive and we als had to leave a very large cash deposit. Hope this helps

Yes, I totally agree with xox that this is a great support network. Good luck xox for tomorrow, I really hope it goes well this cycle. It's funny how we don't tell our closest friends but so openly share everything here...though I suppose if I had a friend who was going through the same thing as I was, I probably wouldn't mind saying something.

I haven't considered IVF, I think I'll give IUI a few more shots before moving on.

Hi Narnia, yes, try IUI for maximum 3 times, then switch to IVF as last resort only.

Sorry mleaf glad your so positive it's easy to get discouraged. Thanks for your well wishes. I was with Dr Choy and the only reason i'm not seeing her any more is b/c we moved to S'pore. Got pregnant once on IUI but lost the bubs at 9wks due to chromo problem and after that had a d&c then waited a month or so for my cycle to return, went on a two week holiday, tried naturally for two months and on the third fell pregnant. By this stage we had little funds so just asked Dr Choy to monitor me so i had a blood test on day 2 then went in for some scans another blood test on day 12or 13 and when those results came in Dr Choy rang and siad i was surging so off we went. We did morning and night for 4 days and i was still on metformin for my PCO the entire time. I belive there were drugs/horms stil in my system plus the d&c cleaned me out and gave me a fresh plate and the holiday probably helped. The metformin was a major factor i believe. I'm glad we did the monitoring though just took the guess work out of everything. Right form the beginning though Dr Choy said we'd try 5 cycles of IUI before looking at IVF.

Hi Tillu, sorry to hear that too. I know how frustrating it is, been there. I did 2 IVFs after my failed 3 IUIs but still nothing happened except more pain and heartache. I'm not loosing hope yet, still trying but not into western doctors anymore. Are you the one who is with Troy? Did you do that together with your IUI? I suggest you stop everything for a month or two to relax and go for a vacation. Forget about the whole thing. And yes, adoption is an option. Take care.

May be I will think to go for IVF, can you please tell me what's your problem, do you know any reason for failed IVF (only if you want to tell). I have lots of questions regarding IVF but will ask later. I am going to be 33 yers in feb. do you think I am too old for baby.

Hello tillu,

Unexplained too. My IVF's egg and sperm quality are all grade 1, the best, so we were thinking that it will be a success. Reason why it failed? oh, the doctor doesn't know, not even with your failed IUI, right? They will usually just tell you to try and try again, maybe for your case, the doc will tell you to try IVF now.

You're still young. Still have lots of time, i'm older so time is ticking fast.

Tillu i know what a struggle this has all been for you to the point where you had to stop using the forum. I'm glad you feel you could share your experiences again and get the support from others. I am so very sorry your IUI failed again and taking a break while you go thru the adoption process might just be the break you need and you could just fall pregnant naturally. Although my first pregnancy failed at 9weeks it took us 5 IUI's to get there. You are still young and definatly not to old to have children i know of 40 year olds going thru IVF so don't worry about your age. I hope things work out for you and you are in my thoughts.

HI Tillu,

What do you mean of TTC ?

Is anyone of friends taking Yasmin, Metformin, & Folic Acid ? Then, Clomid to induce ovulation ?

Previous 1 - 3 cycles with 1 tabs daily for 1 week to 3 tabs daily for 1 week

NOW, taking 4 tabs daily for 1 week to induce ovulations (while taking clomid + Metformin)

Anyone having the same situation like me ?

IF this 4 tabs does not innduce ovulations by day 11, i needs an SO-IUI....anyone known of

SIngapore DR cheng (TFC thomson) ? Is he good ? except the charges is so expensive.
