Pregnancy insurance??

ORIGINAL POST

Does anyone know of companies in HK that provide pregnancy insurance that will help cover some of the costs incurred. Thought Zurich did but was informed yesterday that their insurance was just for 'Womens problems" but did not include maternity. Has anyone any experience or ideas to offer on this subject.

Cheers.

Hi -

believe that HSBC does - but if you are ALREADY pregnant, it doesn't apply. I wasn't covered when I discovered I was pregnant - and then it turned out I couldn't even buy a policy - at the time it needed to have been in effect for at least 18 months before I could qualify for any maternity coverage.

Things might have changed however - I ended up having my baby in the public hospital system - no complaints - had a really great experience at Queen Mary.

I have IHI (International Health Insurance) out of Denmark, Kwicksure sold the policy. It is the best insurance I've ever had, even covered our daughters cranial sacral therapy and later osteopathic treatments (she's fully covered under my policy) as well as my chinese herbs and accupuncture. It gave full maternity coverage after the payment of the deductable.

They do have a exclusion for pregnancy for the first 12 mo of coverage though.

I have looked at the IHI policy and they no longer offer 100% maternity. I use the Allianz Worldwide policy which does offer full cover for maternity with a 10 month waiting period. You should speak to Andrew at RS Insurance Brokers, on 3106-2698, who was very helpful and explained everything.

Good luck with your pregnancy.

Allianz Worlwide is super coverage.

They covered all my prenatal visits, scans, physical therapy, Annerley midwife package, private room at Matilda and all doctor fees.

You need to apply for a 'treatment guarantee' for the hospital fees. The forms are all on the Allianz website and the hospital you choose can help.

They did not cover only three things:

Husband's meals at hospital

Internet access at hospital

elective circumsicion

Try Neil Raymond at www.kwiksure.com or Allianz directly.

Be sure not to get the 'Asia' Policy as this does not cover maternity in full.

Forgot to mention that Allianz is one of the companies to cover chronic conditions. It is certainly one of the best policies around for coverage and price.

Most international insurance companies, like Allianz, Bupa Intl, Goodhealth, IHI Danmark, William Russell, offer insurance coverage on maternity, some up to 100% coverage. Local ones, like AXA, BOC, Manulife, on the other hand may have limit on maternity benefits.

It is very seldom that the insurance will cover fertility treatments and you also need to note the waiting period for maternity insurance.

It is also important to note whether these insurance companies have direct billing arrangement with local private hospitals so that claims will be settled directly.

I started paying for my medical insurance in September 2004 and it says I won't be covered for maternity costs until after 12 months. If I was, to say, get pregnant now, would they pay for costs after 12 months as the baby will be born after 12 motnhs of paying for medical cover.

Or do they mean, that if you get pregnant before the 12 months, they won't pay for any costs to do with that pregnancy at all?

I was in that situation and with our policy we had to pay our antenatal visits until the 12 months had passed then the insurance would kick in and cover the delivery and hospital charges. That's probably the case with your policy too, but read what is says (or ask your agent) to be sure.

Does anyone have any idea of the sorts of costs involved in taking out pregnancy insurance, how much per month, how long did you pay for ? was it worth it??

medical policies are based on your age and the level of benefits you choose. You would be best to talk to Andrew of RS Insurance Brokers on 3106-2698. He gave me a comparison of the different policies and their costs annually or monthly. Really helped me to understand the ins and outs of the cover.

Allianz was less than USD 2000 per year.

We are on our second year now, and have added our baby.

Our delivery at Matilda was around 100,000.

Each doctor visit was between 400-800.

Lab tests were more.

Allianz covered EVERYTHING (except my husband's meals at the hospital and wireless internet access at the hospital).

Yes, it was completely worth it financially and for the peace of mind.

As per posts above, neil raymond of http://www.kwiksure.com is excellent. You can also look at Allianz website for details fo rates and coverage.
