hello!

i am first time pregnant in beijing (have just passed the 12 weeks mark) and very worried about the excruciatingly high prices of beijing united hospital. i have a very good british medical insurance, but even this cannot cover the ridiculous fee for prenatal check-ups and birth at bju.

please let me know if any of you have given birth at peking union/ sino-japanese hospital and what you thought of it- i may need to consider these options.

also if any of you have already given birth in beijing (at any other hospital) i am desperate to hear the experiences of other women, as i am still pondering on whether to give birth in beijing or elsewhere.

i am especially interested in difficult births and how they were handled in bju, sino-jap or peking union. thanks! xxx

thank you for your reply. it is really comforting to know that other women have gone through the experience of giving birth in BJU with no mishaps...

could you tell me which doctor did you use? also, did you build a relationship during your pregnancy with one of the midwives at the hospital, who could also be present at your birth, or was there anyone else present at the birth who was familiar with your history of antenatal checkups? i would feel safer if this could be somehow arranged.

much appreciated

oana

Hello,

I am 26 weeks pregnant and have to consider giving birth in Beijing (I cannot take plane). I also find BJU overpriced as my insurance is very basic and will not even cover for 20% of the cost!!!

I would like your opinion about the Sino/Japonese Hospital (can they speak English?) or about the Chinese Maternity Hospital near Chaoyang gymnasium (I went there for ultrasounds, but they cannot speak English) or any other Hospital. I am being followed at Vista Clinic.

I am also looking for a very small bed for newborn baby (1 to 3 months).

Feel free to contact me by e-mail: pruvot_helene@hotmail.com

Any success stories to be share for the Peking Union? From these threads, it seems like the Beijing United is the hospital of choice.

The gynecologist at Bayley & Jackon's is referring me to a fertility expert at the Peking Union. I was wondering how the Peking Union compares with regards to facilities and doctors, and whether anyone can share their stories.

Hi again,

I have my first appointment at Sino-Japan Hospital (foreigners deprtment) this week, so I will let you know how it is. I also heard of Xie He Hospital, but haven't checked yet.

Xie He Hospital is the Peking Union. I paid them a visit last week and no complaints so far. Their leading gynaecologist (Dr. He Fangfang) speaks some English, but not a lot.

I heard that 4D scans are not available at the Peking Union.

I have also been going to Xie He/ PUMC and am nearing my seventh month. My Dr. is Dr. Gai. She is terrific, but this is a second baby and I am not a worrying bazillion type question person anyway. She studied at Columbia and speaks English very well, though I have to admit we use Chinese during apps. The only draw back is she only sees patients on Thurs. and there is a fairly long wait. I will be sure to post my delivery experience since there doesn't seem to be much info. here.

So I went to Sino-Japan Hospital. 2 Drs can speak English (not fluently, but it's enough to communicate). They're not really optimistic and encouraging but i'll deal with it.

For my next appointment I have prepared a list of questions regarding the Hospital, costs and C-section....Hope they will answer everything carefully.

I didn't have to wait for too long at the Intl dpt; but it's under renovation and will be finished for April only.

I have been told that in Xie he (PU), they don't accept a file from another clinic, they want to do all the exams over again. Is that right? I'm 32 weeks and my file from Vista Clinic is complete with all details.

PU won't accept bloodwork from anywhere else, it must be done in house. But, I did have my ultrasound at Vista (wanted husband to come along and had to suit his schedule) and it was no problem. To my knowledge, it is only bloodwork they don't take from outside. Good luck, Helenep! Let us know how it goes!

Hi,

I'm 2 weeks away from my c-section at Sino-Japan Hospital. I wouldn't say that I love the place, I feel a bit like a number rather than a patient, but the Dr is ok and seems competent. I wasn't allowed to see the rooms ...maybe next week when I'll have to make a choice.

Deposit will be 15,000 RMB for c-section all included.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy delivery!!!! I feel like I have been pregnant for seven years instead of seven months. It's the long BJ winter I guess! This is my second baby, barely remember the C section from the first...only the happy days at home afterward. I am sure you will be the same. Best of everything to you!!!
