Who else gets up to wee at 3:30am and then is stuck lying awake the rest of the night, only to finally drop off at about 6am, shortly before one has to get up and get to work?????

Firsttimemom -
welcome to the world of pregnancy. you are not alone. In fact, some people hypothesize that pregnant woman experience both insomnia and frequent night wakings in order to prepare for the more difficult time when you're forced to get up to breastfeed, change, comfort your baby.
I had this problem with #1, and have just jumped over the hurdle with #2. Some things that I found that worked were:
1. going to the bathroom in the dark (sounds scary, but the less light, the harder it is to "wake up"
2. a very very boring book by my bedside to read. I read a very theoretical book on language acquistion and that one pretty much helped me knock out. Read something that is all statistical data or something.
3. No caffeine at all. During the day none if I could do it. If I HAD to have something, green tea...and before 12:00. Chocolates, colas, all out the door.
4. if all else fails, then get out of bed and do something that you like.
Soon you'll hit the stage where you're sleep all the time, and you can't get UP! good luck!

Trust me TC, your discomfort is nowhere close to hers, and its only going to get worse the last three months and when the baby comes!!! My hubby is long suffering too, I'm in and out of bed any amount of times, and then I toss and turn, dig him in the back etc etc etc, poor guy. Then I make him massage me and put be back to sleep, which he does without fuss in some half conscious state!! LOL.
Its great if one doesnt have to work, but we both do, so I really have to pull myself together in the mornings, get there for 9. No one knows in the office so I have no excuses! Its lucky I'm in control of my own dept, otherwise I'd be a right mess.
Good idea to grab as many afternoon naps as possible when the weekend rolls around. Its great.
