Dr Ho is great. Do a search on fertility doctors to help you make a decision, as it has come up many times.

Good Luck!

Check "annieh's" thread "Dye Test to check your Overies", "tillu" gave a complete breakdown 11 days ago of IUI charges with both Dr Ho and Dr Doo.

If you want an opinion...both doctors have an excellent reputation, both are very nice, both clinics are run efficiently and you hardly wait (10 min maybe), but for me, I felt a bit like a number with Dr Doo. My 3 IUI's with with him weren't successful so I went to Dr Ho for a second opinion. But I'm staying with Dr Ho for an IVF cycle, I just like him better. I feel more like an individual.

Haven't been to Dr Leong, but he's older and I suspect Dr Doo will eventually take over his practice. My friend used him though, she got pregnant (IVF) and he was supportive of her using TCM--he took a look at her teas--the other two ask you not to while being treated. She'd had treatment for several years and is convinced it was the teas made the difference that last time....

I've got the information, thank you so much for all of your ....I am not really sure now whether we can afford both financially and metally if we cannot be successful in the first 2 IUI, it sounds very stressfull from you ladies' experience....

I am 32, we've been trying for baby over 2 years, we went to seek advice from HK Family Planning, I've done the HSG test, my tubes are not blocked. My husband's sperm test shows he does not have enough sperms and motility is low. He is now having accuputure and Chinese herbal tea to improve it. Should we wait for awhile, see whether it will work for us first before trying IUI???

Hi Joyce

I can undersatnd your situation as I am also 33 yrs and almost trying for 2 Yrs with 3 failed IUI. EVery things seems perfect for us for healthwise it is a case of unexplained infertility.

When we did our first IUI my hubby's sperm motality was low and he took proxeed for three months and now it is as per the rquirement. It takes 3 months for sperm to get ready, as per my openion if you have started any medication may be postpone IUI for 2-3 months.

Its better you discuss this with your Dr.

Best of luck

hmmm...what to do joyce...

IUI may not be "enough" if the sperm issues are serious. Often if fertility assistance is necessary, what's needed is more than just putting the sperm in closer proximity to the egg at the perfect time. But IUI is less invasive and less expensive than IVF so it's a common first step.

Tillu is right, anything done to improve things on the male side will take 3+ months to show up in the numbers. You're young yet so the 3 mo isn't a problem for your fertility, just your patience.

You may want to look into Proxeed, as tillu mentioned. Dr Doo's office sells it, I'm sure others do too. It's a 2 times a day powder supplement that's mixed with water or juice and, if you read their website, has an amazing track record with improving all aspects of sperm health. It doesn't work for everyone though and it didn't for us, but I'm glad we tried, it made us feel we'd given IUI our best shot.

(You'd probably want to check with someone that the teas and Proxeed can be taken together...)

Hi Ladies, thank you so much for your kind suggestions, I feel much better now, as I have someone to talk to, none of my friends has come across this before. Maybe I have to talk to my hubby see what we should do. Actually, we did join the queue in Kwong Wah Hospital for the subfertility consultation, but our first consultation will be Mar 07, still a year to go.... that's why we are thinking to try the private treatment.

Does anyone know Dr. Derek Lo? He was recommended to me by the hospital, but I have never seen his name in this website, while other infertility doctors are usually mentioned.

I have already met him and seems a very nice person, but I am more concerned about the "result" of the treatments.

Hi Girls, well I went for my mid cycle u/s today and the results weren't good. Eggs not quite the right size and doc suggested against IUI (which would've been my 3rd). I've been getting medical help for over 6 months now and things are getting really frustrating. Had a good cry tonight. I've not been too distressed about the whole thing until now. Strange. I'm also thinking about getting a second opinion and seeing a chinese herbalist. I'm 34 and don't really want to let things drag on for too long and healthwise, I'm fine. Dr also suggested IVF coz DH's sperm quality isn't great, but I don't want to jump into that just yet.

Good luck to everyone here.

Hi Narina, feel sorry about that... It takes really long time for the Chinese herbs to work, but I think it is an alternative way thought. Can also try accuputure, my hubby is drinking the tea eveyday and having accuputure 3 times a week, I do hope it will work to improve his spetm quality too.

Hi joyce--our doctor didn't suggest a urologist and I didn't think of it (it didn't come up in any of my research) until <'s posting 2 days ago...but if the urologist can correct things for him (for <), that's certainly a preferable way to go, IMO. A consult with a private doctor won't be very expensive, and it would answer the question.

2 year wait at Princesss Margaret? unbelievable.

Makes sense to have a check-up then. Either they find something or they don't, but either way you know...

Hi Ladies,

Another option, as a last resort, after all my failed 3 IUIs and 2 IVFs, i did try acu, and it works for me, i got lucky with it maybe because it's less stressful. Again, i suggest you go to this route as a last resort, going thru IUI and IVF is still the best high chance to conceive.

No IUI is not painful more like having a pap smear, i can't remeber feeling wet and the actual procedure is only a few minutes but they usually like you to wait in the chair with your legs slightly raised for about 20mins afterwards.
