safe soap/shampoo for women trying to get pregnant

ORIGINAL POST
Posted by macaron mania 20 yrs ago
Hi,

I have done a lot of research on how shampoo/body soap ingredients are dangerous and cause defect in babies, possibly prohibit pregnancy, or worse, cause defects in childbirth. Thus I started making soap. My skin looks much better and smooth after I stopped using chemical soap. (SLS:Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Salfate is the most dangerous surfactant)

I want to get pregnant, so I am doing other things to generally improve my fertility, like eating organic wheat instead of 100% white rice, and introducing herbs to my cooking that are supposed to improve fertility (both for myself and my partner).

If anyone wants to know how to make great soap, please let me know.

Nobody wants to know how to make soap???? I just learned that some early miscarriages are caused by exposure to any toxics, which I believe includes some chemical substance included in the shampoo and other toiletary stuff. I am telling you, my health has improved soooo much after I stoped using over the counter shampoo and soap. I only use 100%natural shampoo and soap mainly the home made ones. Before, I had some endo like symptom and a doctor diagnosed as endo, but now, with my new doctor, I have no signs of endo and am basically in a condition where I can conceive (theoretically)...

Please don't scaremonger until you supply a medical fact that says miscarriage causing toxins can be found in some toiletries. The women on here have enough to contend with in trying for a baby without having to read that the relatively harmless, everyday things they use could be another factor.

Right, that was very insensitive of me. I am very sorry. I just read it in some fertility website that chemical toxins may be the cause for some miscarriages, but it does not say what chemical causes it, and SLS are very harmful for you and causes endo. I am sure using a relatively mild chemical toiletary goods is safe. I am sorry again for everyone if this post caused unnecessary worries amongst people who are trying to conceive.

tillu, thank you so much. I just mailed Phenix and apologized her, and she said the same thing as you did, too. I was mortified, almost burst into tears not that I was offended, but the thought I might have caused some worries in girls trying to get pregnant killed me, cause I like the way people help out each other on this forum. Phenix said too much info is sometimes too much, and I totally agree...and it was good to learn that I should be more sensitive. I am glad you and Phenix understand, and hopefully other people understand my harmless intension.

Of course you ment no malice, your just sharing info you believe has helped you and we all do that so as to help all the others on this forum. I'm sure Phenix understands that, i'm sure Phenix didn't mean what she said to upset you.

hi simplythebest,

Thanks! I am waiting for another day for another blood test, but it seems that it was too early... No, I haven'T heard of Zita, but I will check it out. It is hard to find anything 100% natural these days, and I buy a lot of things from abroad. Good luck to your 2ww. The af like symptom is nothing...I still have it, but I haven'T even started spotting. Lots of baby wish in your way!!!! I was doubtful about how effecient IUI is, but hearing about a lot of people here, it seems to work! Lots of sticky baby dust to you all girls!

I like the book called "Natural Ways to a Healthy Mind, Body & Spirit" by Mark Evans. It explains what herbs are good for fertility and not good for pregnant women, etc. etc. Also, Natural Healing for Women by Susan Curtis and Romy Fraser. This book is sort of anti-fertility treatment, but I ignored that part. It tells you what herbs are good for increasing sperm count etc., and I have practiced it and it seemed to have worked. Also, my favorite organic toiletary brand is Aubrey. They do not use any chemical at all. There are lots of brand that says "organic" and "natural", but I always check every single ingredient. I never buy things that do not tell you what's in it. Aubrey uses Grapefruit extract for preservative reason, and that is just as safe as it gets if you want anything that you don't have to keep in the fridge all the time!

Yeah, you can get their products at City Super in HK, but where do you live? THere is a website you can order from US. Their selection is much better than at City Super:http://www.aubrey-organics.com/index.cfm

Hi Macaron, as i've said before, i will be moving to Hk by July, i'm now using organic, natural shampoo and eat as much organic as possible. Maybe if i'm there, you can help me out on where to buy it. City Super is where in Hk? is it a grocery shop that i can easily find? Is it expensive, say for a shampoo? I will live in Hk island. Thanks.

Macaron Mania, i noticed there was a shop selling "natural" soap & shamp products in central/soho HK. It's under the escalator by Lynhurst Terrace next to "xcite" ice cream. Have you been there, is that shop any good for the all natural products you've been talking about?

Hi Crystal88,

I just read your post on my IUI thread! Thanks. City Super has many branches in HK, but the one that carry shampoo is the one in Causway Bay, and the one in Tsim Sha Tsui. It is very easy to find, but I can help you too. There is another very small organic/natural product shop in SOHO, where I buy some herb extracts, and laundry detergent. These places are relatively expensive, but I haven't found an alternative. When you go to local markets, nothing is labeled (organic/non organic), so it is difficult to find less expensive alternatives... Shampoo I buy is around 140HKD, if my memory is correct, not so cheap, but compared to some really expensive but toxic ones, it is not bad. Making shampoo bar at home is the cheapest and the best! (Although you need to let it sit for a month or more...)

Thanks macaron, the shampoo price is almost the same here, i am using Avalon Organics sold by Nature's Farm. Just one more question please....where exactly in Causeway Bay is City Super? so i can drop by next week to check it out. Do you also have organic chicken there? How did you learn how to make the soaps? Thanks.

Hi Perthites,

I think I've been to the soap shop you are talking about...but I just got a notice they will move to another place? I will check it out and get back with you. Yes, I am like you...trying everything that might help! (Probably good mentally as well...)I am sure your getting your natural cycle is a great sign! Lots of baby dust to you!

Crystal88, You know whre Times Squre is in Causeway Bay? It is a bit building, and if you get off at Causeway Bay station of the metro, you will see the sign from the exit. City Super is in the basement, just below Lane Crowford.

I think they carry some organic meat at Great, City Super, and Oliver's, three international supermarkets in HK. I haven't been particularly picky about organic meat, but it might be better to change to it too. Just that the supermarket in our neighborhood is only Park'n Shop, and the selection there isn't that great.

I heard that Welcome Shop carries some organic meat and vegetables.

Soap Garden is having a removal sale from 5/25. Check it out! but check the label for ingredients. They are not all 100% natural. The owner there is pretty honest, though. If you ask you want 100% natural products, he will tell you which ones are and which ones are not.

Crystal, you can tell by looking at the ingredients, but the trouble is, some country do not have as strict regulations as to what ingredients you have to list as other countries. That means, you might be looking at the list of some ingredients that the producer wanted to list, but not the othters if the percentage of inclusion is very small. However, some chemical has all the effects good or bad no matter how small the portion is in one product, as it penetrate through your skin and stays in the system, like the liver and accumulates over time. Of course, imported goods have to follow the rules of the importing countries, but there are some flows in the process of translation, or just a simple non-compliance by the importers. The best thing you can do is to find a reliable company, do as much research as possible, and stick with their products.

There is this shop too, I think they carried some organic stuff: Healing Plants 17 Lyndhurst Terrace (852)2815-9448

Also, I found this website for everyone interested in organic products

Perthites,

I am glad you found all natural soap. Since when I started using non-chemical soap, my skin is so much nicer...(except for the breakouts I have from progesterone...). Hope it works for you. I can also tell you how to make soap, and you can make it at home. It is very easy. All natural soap is a bit expensive, especially how quickly it melts...more natural ingredients it has, the faster it disolves... Anyway, see how you like the soap from Thailand, and let me know how it was!

Simplythebest,

I am so excited for you starting the IUI procedure!!! How wonderful. Did you like Dr. Ho? Are you going to take the gonal F shots? or are you going through all the tests still? Keep us posted how it goes. I am glad you found Aubrey products, too. Which products did you buy? let me know how you liked them.

Simplythebest,

You should ask about the test results. They should have it by now, if they are giving you clomid. I was told by Kelly that I can continue mild exercise, and can go swimming as well. Just do it more moderately closer to ovulation, she said. However, I became too tired to do normal exercise, so I just kind of stopped all the running, but continued slow swimming, which I completely stopped after confirming pregnancy. I only do maternity yoga now.

I know, there are many brands even at City Super, but make sure you read all the ingredients. They are not all 100% natural. Natural products are not so good if you are looking for instant result, such as shiny hair and things, but I think it works over time. My hair was so damaged by perm and coloring before, so it will take time to regain natural look. I think it takes a bit of patience. People think I am all going natural and starting to look like a native american girl. (Makes sence as it is hard to keep my hair in place, so I often wear brades or piggy tails like native americans!)
