Pregnancy and Stomach Cramps

I am 5 weeks pregnant. I have started to suffer from stomach cramps - but no ordinary cramps!


For the past few nights I have woken up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet. After urinating I have been experiencing horrible stabbing like pain in my lower abdonmin. This lasts for about 15 minutes were I am beside myself in agony. Once these pass I am left with a dull but constant ache, again in my lower abdonmin - which lasts from about 30-45 mins.


When I saw my doc at the initial 'Im pregnant appt' he told me to expect cramps and only if there is appearance of bleeding am I to inform his office.


The thing that worries me is this only happens at night - maybe once or twice. I am not experiencing this during the day.


Is this normal? Grateful for any advice....

Lower abdominal pain can be caused by many things, it could also be a urinary tract infection, drink plenty and see the doctor if it is still continuing. Have you had a scan yet to check where the egg is implanted?

Spoke to Nurse - she thinks its gastric. Will increase intake of water.

I havent had a scan yet - its scheduled for 6wks so another week to go!
