I just found out from my Gyn that I have PCOS and that my progesterone (spelling?) level(s) were low. She said that she'd have to follow me through a full cycle to do some monitoring. Does anyone know what this means or has anyone had this experience before?

Hi Narina, I too have PCOS and have been on traetment for 4 months. Yes a Dr will have to monitor all your hormones during a complete cycle and decide what are the hormones that are low or high ab treat accordingly. In my case all my hormones were normal and the only way they diagnosed me was by an ultra sound. They might also put you on metformon.
Good Luck to you.

Narnia ,
I have PCOS too. With a strong chemical imbalance.I was on medication for about an year - metformin, aldactarone.
I spent about half a year indenial - inspite of being on medication. But now I have come to terms with it. I am not trying to get pregnant at the moment so am not even letting my mind go there.Ask your partner too read about the syndrome too - it helps.
Suggest you educate your self about the syndrome.see link

Narina I also have PCO and amnow 6 weeks pregnant. The Dr will need to check all your horm levels and also check you are ovulating by your self. I am on Metformin and have been for 6 months it makes a big difference if your trying to get pregnant to take this or something similar. We only discovered i had PCO b/c we were trying to get preg and couldn't. As livewire said get info on PCO i put in a search in Yahoo and got pleanty to read. Good luck.

Perthites - just read your post above. I am so happy for you!
We are into our first treatment cycle. Ive had a lot of trouble getting my hormone levels right with the nasal spray they give you to prepare your ovaries (Im too sensitive to the drugs!). I am now waiting to start the self-injecting phase.
Just wanted you to know how happy I am for you.

Perthites- congratulations.
happy to hear about you getting preggy.Hope you have a happy and pampered pregnancy.
Did you have to get an IVF , or just metformin?

Thanks asking and livewire still got to get thru the next 4 weeks but so far so good!
Livewire i had 1 IVF 5 IUIs the last iui got me preg had just gone on metformin but lost the baby at 8weeks due to chromo problem. I had to have a D&C in feb and then we tried naturally for a couple of months with no luck so we went for monitoring only that is a couple of blood tests and ultrasounds and we got pregnant. My Dr is great and very open to your views she knows what she's doing but will work with you both easily. I am currently still taking the metaformin as PCO has a higher risk of miscarriage so unitl we reach 14 weeks i'll coninue taking it. So we heard a nice strong heart beat today and i won't be going back (unless i want to) until end of july for the downes testing, so fingers crossed we make it to that and thru that!

Hi Perthites!
Happy to hear you heard a strong heart beat today. You two must be really releived. Take care of yourself. I have sent you a pm as well.
When they did your D&C did the Dr perform something called an ovarian drilling as well.

Thanks for all your advice AND congrats to Perthites! I've been following all these threads in the past few months and this is great to hear.
I'm sort of a bit down about my diagnosis coz I thought I was healthy and I'm an optimistic person who tries to stay away from stress. The hard part is when all your friends around you are preg and they keep asking when it's my turn...don't know whether I should tell them about my condition. I'm starting to sound naive here.
I hope the PCOS treatment isn't too strenuous and I'll have to tell my hubby about it too. Hope he doesn't get too disappointed and is supportive about it.
Will do some serious reading up about it.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the insight...it's one thing to read about it on various websites but it's another to hear real experiences....thanks again and I love all this support everyone is giving to each other.
well I'm going to Sydney mid-month to see the folks for 3 weeks...hubby will be with me for about 5 days. Going home to chill out a bit (yes, literally coz it's winter over there)and we're going to Cairns for a bit of diving. Then it's back to HK for the one month of monitoring...hope everything goes alright.
Take care everyone
