vaccination and pregnancy

You can get your rubella (german measles) immunity levels checked through a blood test but if you have not been vaccinated before and have never knowingly been exposed to the disease either I think that you should get the vaccination done anyway. Rubella contracted during pregnancy can cause terrible birth defects as well as put other pregnant women around you at risk. In the UK all girls are routinely vaccinated during their secondary school years as a precaution. For chicken pox, I am not aware of a specific vaccination but might be wrong. Again, not something you want to get during pregnancy though but it tends to be prevalent in the pediatric population so if you have other kids or go into schools etc. a lot you might be at more risk but then you can also catch it from adults around you of course. Go to see a doctor for a pre preganancy consultation to discuss and also all the other planning you will need to do like beginning vitamin and folic acid supplements etc. Good luck!

The satistical risk of birth defects from Varicella (Chicken pox)infection in the first 3 months is less than rubella but it is a risk.

Be sure to be vaccinated for S.P. there are two techniques, check the antibody level and if it is absent have the shot, just as acceptable is just have the shot. Also at the same time, check Blood type, antibodies screen, Hepatitis screen and Rubella antibody level.
