should I get professional advice?

I'm 38 and have been trying to fall pregnant for the last 3-4 months. I've been using the clearplan ovulating kit and it shows that I'm ovulating monthly and on time. I am not getting any younger and feel frustrated that nothing has happened. My husband already has a son from a previous relationship. Do you think it's time for me to get professional advice or am I being impatient?

I was 38 when I consulted the doctor for the first time. I strongly recommend that you and your husband take some tests and acknowledge where you stand. The chances are that, after trying only 4 months, there is no fertility problem but just haven't tried long enough, but when I knew exactly where I stand, I felt much stronger and better as I knew what the choices are in front of me. Then you can decide if you need a fertility assistance, or try naturally a bit more. Tests are fairly easy and painless (in my case). Good luck!

Hi xox,

I think its best you get a full check up to make sure nothing is wrong. I was only 28 when I started to try conceiving and when it didnt happen in 4 months I went to a gyno for a check-up. The first gyno was ofcourse a waste of time, as he got me to do various tests for two months only to find I had no problem. Then my husband thought we needed to try someone else since we were young and nothing was still happening. So we went to Dr Derek Lo and he diagnosed me with Polycistic ovaries with the very first ultra sound. Since then I have been on fertility treatment, its now close to an year since we've been TTC.

I also should tell you that I too have been ovulating without a problem although I have PCOS. Its just that the quality of eggs arent as good when you have PCOS although you ovulate.

I think it is advisable that you go in for a chcek up.

As I told you I go to Dr Derek Lo and am very happy with him. I have also heard good things about Dr Choy and I have seen her once. Depend on who you are comfortable with. There are several other Drs recommended by others in this foru. So you can try one of them.

Good luck to you

Thanks AC1234. I thik it's a good is idea not to waste too much time, especially at my age. Do you have Dr Derek Lo's number? Do I need a referral from a GP?

Hi xox i agree with the other girls it can't hurt to see some one so both you and your partner can have some basic tests. I see a female DR she is in Central, Dr Choy is brillant her number is 3112 0480. I hve PCOS and have recently got pregnant thanks to her help. Her clinic is called Care For Women and she just moved out to her own clinic after working at the women's clinic. She is the only Dr in her clinic so it's not so busy. You will not require a GP referral. Good luck keep in mind that if you do discover you or your partner have issues which Dr you chose is important. You have to feel completly comfortable with them and feel confident in what they are telling you if you don't change straight away. All the best.

Hi XOX, I see Dr. Ho. I think he is very professional and seems to know what he is doing. I got pregnant for the first intra utinary insemination with his assistance, ,though later miscarried, but it is due to the egg quality, and nothing could be done to prevent this from happening, so as long as I fell pregnant, the procedure of IUI must have been done adequately.

Dr Ho's contact is:

2899-2293,

Talk to Kelly, his assistant, to get basic info before you go into consultation. She is quite knowledgeable, and would answer your question well. The tests will take about 1.5 to 2 months to get all the results, depending on your cycle. I recommend you call up several different clinics that are recommended here, or from other sources, and ge some idea before you go into the actual treatment if you need. You will be spending a lot of money once the treatment starts, and it will be wise to spend a little more upfront by sitting for consultations with different doctors, to find the one you like. I didn't do that before, and I am quite happy with Dr Ho, but when I hear good things about other doctors, I kind of wonder.

Hi XOX, TTC for 3-4 month is not a long time as per information available some time it takes one year to ger pregnant even if both partner are healthy. But its better to consult a doctor. Try to be relaxed stress plays a very negative role in getting pregnant. I am consulting Dr Doo at The Women's Clinic his no. is 2523 3007. I am totally agree with MM that you can go to other threads as there are no. od Drs Reccommended. It would be good just note down all the information, questions you want to discuss with Dr. As the the consultancy is bit expensive. i also suggest you to take your BBT chart with you as some dr. ask for it if any.

Good Luck and lots of baby dust to you

Hi xox, Dr Lo's no is 2522-0691. His nurse is Grace and she too is very helpful. As the others have stated just look around and talk around as it all depends on individual preference. I am a bit of a softie and I need someone who is caring and patient. A slight pain makes me call my Dr at 6 in the morning.

Livewire. I think you are one of those lucky once who have been diagnosed early. So keep going for check ups so that you know you are ok until you decide to get pregnant. A little help from a Dr wont help, as I realized most Drs wont rush into strong medication unless necessary and would take you on a natural cycle.

Livewire i suggest you see a Dr before starting to try as you might have cycts which will prevent you from getting pregnant.Habe you been trying to get pregnant since your last scan as you may need to check you are ovulating yourself. Are you on any meds for PCO like glucoparge or metaphormin?

Thank you for the advice people.

I am not trying to get pregnant right now, but want to start trying by the end of the year.

Since my cycles are pretty regular i am not on any medication. But I will see the Doc. before I start trying - so that I dont hit a wall and get frustrated.

The doc once gave me "krismson" for my acne- It didnt suit me, so I chucked it midway.

I will see one of the Docs mentioned in the forum.

I know this sounds quite alternative, but it is a cheaper starting point before goign down the stressful path of testing procedures. Patrick Holford's book "Optimum Nutrition: Before, During and After Pregnancy" is an excellent guide. ( available on Amazon). It also involves 4 months of preparation from the husband's side - yes the sperm must be healthy too! Some doctors may deny that nutrition has much of a link with fertility, but read and see. Good luck!

Memdan,

That sounds like a great book. Since I am in the waiting period after D&C, to start another cycle, I will get the book and prepare for the next chance!

Generally in Infertility studies, the best units do not want to start any testing until you have had 12 months of unprotected intercourse, as the chance of getting pregnant, even in the absense of problems is small in any one month. However in the case of women who are over 35 we tend to bend this rule, as time is getting shorter. What is really useful for your Dr on the first appt is if you have a menstrual daity, documenting your periods and the times of intercourse. One of the simplest, cheapest, pieces of info is the Basal body temp charts for at least 3 months. You can buy a BBT thermometer with instuctions in any drug store. Even with the ovulation tests now available it can give useful info.

xox I am just about to turn 35 and i wished i gone to a Dr sooner we spent a year of unassisted trying and then a year of assisted trying before i got pregnant. We would like more than one child and i don't really want one on top of the other but don't have as many choices now so if your keen what harm are a few tests!
