Just wondering if anyone out there is having the same problem? I am 27 weeks pregnant and I have serious heart burn and just can't keep anything down. I've been eating plain food but I puke after every meal...@_@

I understand heart burn is very common in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, but is there anything I can take to help? Ginger tea?

I have only gained 3.1kg so far and the fact that I am throwing up after every meal makes me worried about my baby.....>__<

Sorry to hear that... Have you tried eating more frequent but smaller portions? Any kind of food makes you puke less?

You've been putting on very little weight! But not to worry if doctor says your baby is growing in the right size.

you poor thing, i was very sick until 14 weeks pregnant, even dry biscuits and water made me hurl. i lost 3.5kg at end of 1st tri and overall weight gain (after putting back the 3.5kg) was 7kg, not very much at all.

my doc was concerned and made me rest lots...i had a rather small baby - 2.75kg at 39 weeks but very healthy thank goodness.

check with your doctor...puking after every meal is unpleasant and not v good. i understand for some serious cases they will admit you to the hospital and put you on a drip.

take care! :)

I had really bad morning sickness for the first 15 weeks then I got better; but I started to get really bad heart burn problem at week 24. My doctor just suggested me to rest, eat little but frequent and avoid all the greasy, fatty, spicy and acidic food. But lately anything I eat makes me puke, even congee (rice soup) and dry toast! >_< Fortunately my baby seems to be growing on schedule as baby now weights 2lbs 7oz, so baby seems to be growing strong tho mom is throwing up everyday....I just hope I will get better soon...my throat is sore from puking all the time...@_@

The only thing I would suggest is eat anything your body is telling you it wants...when I was pregnant if I ate anything else than what I actually felt like eating it made me feel sick. so if you want chocolate eat it...if you feel like macdonalds, eat it.......the worst time is when I wanted a cheese burger and I ate rockmelon instaed(to try be healthy)...boy did it make me feel sick.

Hi Chrispy06,

Heartburn and the acid reflux and vomiting associated with it is just plain awful! I have just birthed my fourth baby and have had shocking heartburn with all pregnancies and only found relief the day after my birth!

Some things to try: Elevate the head of your bed (not pillows as you tend to slip off them), Drink Fennel and pepermint tea as this aids digestion, Drink soda water and try to avoid pastries and highly refined carbohydrates, discuss the situation with your health provider, you may require an antacid and there are various strengths and preparations which are safe for pregnancy.

Unfortunately it tends to get worse and the burning sensation starts to interfere with your sleeping which in turn makes you feel grumpy and down in the dumps.

Good luck, my baby is now 2 weeks old and it is lovely having relief from the heartburn.

Chrispy -

you must be feeling awful. One tip I learned about is to separate solids from liquids (at least 45 minutes apart.) It sounds crazy (I personally love drinking water in the middle of my meal) but taking your meal first and then waiting until later really helped me.

Is your prenatal vitamin also making you puke? Mine used to give me a hard time (evidently the iron in it) and I had to time it just right or it gave me a tummy ache and caused me to vomit.

On a comic note, some wives' tales state that heartburn means your baby will have lots of hair! (I heard "hairy" but whether that means body or all over, I'm not sure.)

Try and rest - and as white rabbit says, eat what you like in small amounts.

re: hkchoichoi's comments about prenatal vits....i used to take mine in the morning and i always threw up. so i took them before bed instead when i wasn't too ill and i broke them into half to make swallowing easier.

There is a simple posture that I learnt it from the pregnancy yoga tape I have at home. It says help soothe heartburn -

Kneel on your heels. Back straight (lower back slightly curled). Cross your fingers and raise your arms straight above your head, thus extending the upper back.

I have one word for you all - GAVISCON. It is the best advice I ever got frommone of my girlfriends when she found out I was preggers. You can buy it Mannings (at the chemist counter) either in liquid or chewable tablet form. I highly recommend the liquid as it works faster and is more soothing.

Agree that some foods have a worse effect on your gastric reflux and heartburn but some women with get it no matter what they eat or don't eat.

It is best to take a dose after each meal and before bedtime. you may need to kep some at the office or by your bed. It is safe for pregnant women to take.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your problems...

My best tips are:

1) eat very small meals - no greasy or acid things

2) don't drink with your meal - drink earliest 30 - 90 minutes before or after meals. No orange or grapefruit juice (acid) - sparkling water and milk were fine for me

3) don't eat for 3 hours before going to bed, but DO drink fresh milk (I also did not gain a lot of weight so switched from skim to normal fat milk and had a big hot cop every evening before sleeping)

4) GAVISCON is amazing - and endorsed by my doctor too - follow Vulvic's super advice!

Good luck!

Starbucks - am munching one of the tablets right now, lol!

Unfortunately I am mad for orange juice and fresh pomelo which does nothing to help the reflux.

Fatty foods actually make me feel ill now and my body craves lots of salad, chicken and wholewheat cereals.
