Just found out how exorbitant it is to deliver baby in private hosp! Slight relief on reading the Canossa thread. But wondering if anyone can tell me what's the total cost for a C-sect in Canossa & if the OB used was a resident doc in Canossa or a personal OB. Was he/she any good??Would really appreciate any opinions/suggestions.

Sharin - Did you get Canossa's price list? If not, I think I still have the prices and can post them here. Of course, prices can vary (if different drugs/techniques are used, etc., etc.), but the list gives you an overall package price for natural and c-secs for the different room types.
Can't speak to the resident vs. personal OB thing. Can tell you that the private docs have their own package (they vary....some covering prenatal visits, delivery, and some post visits....or others covering only delivery, etc.) prices available too...so you add that to the hospital costs. Some private docs will not offer you a package price if you get a private room at the hospitals...at least that's the case at Canossa, Matilda, and Adventist.
We have expat friends who have delivered and others who will deliver at several of the public hospitals. Some of them needed the specialist care at the hospitals, others did it because their insurance covered barely any of costs associated with maternity/delivery, etc. They have/will pay about HK$300-$600 all tolled.

Thks alot for input. Did look at prices on the Canossa website but there were lots of exclusions in the prices(eg.doc's fees). So, just wondering if anyone had a real-life
C-sect experience & how much it came to in Canossa. Most of all, are the OBs there any good & if so, any recommendations.

Maybe start a new thread with the subject line of "Resident Docs at Canossa?"...or something along those lines. You might get some more specific responses that way.
We've only been here since the beginning of the year, but I've only heard of people using private docs at the three hospitals mentioned and then the resident docs (or, if needed, specialists from private and public hospitals) at the public hospitals. But again, we've not been here as long as some of the other posters, so they can likely bring you more info.
G'luck!
