Itch

ORIGINAL POST

I'm in week 24. Understand that it will be itchy around the belly the bigger it grows. My itch does not go to the belly but to the breasts and esp the nipples. Any advice? I plan to breastfeed. Should I apply cream on the nipples?

haha,

just scratch (but not too rough until the skin peels) - that's what i did!! :)

the consolation is that the itch will go away so i don't think it will affect breastfeeding.

Nicher, I had the same problem, and the itching became a lot more managable when I stopped using soap on my nipples. Now, I use Cetaphil to clean and a really mild moisturizer by Aveeno afterwards. If the itching persists until you need to breastfeed, you can always moisturize with Lanisoh since this is apparently the only nipple cream that you don't have to remove before nursing.

Thanks Mayafox and Wheelymate. I have also been using Cetaphil for 2 months, but it doesn't quite help the situation. Of course, taking a shower does soothe the itch but during the day I just feel like putting my hands into my clothes and scratch!!

Mayafox where can I get Lanisoh? I saw from Mothercare that there is a nipple cream too. Is that good?

Itchy boob, itchy tum - just one of the many pleasures if being pregnant! The heat doesn't help either.. I have found moisturising really helps and also breast massage.

Good luck.

You can get Lansinoh from most baby shops -- I've seen it in Bumps to Babes, Mothercare in Causeway Bay and Annerley Midwives just in the last few days.
