Labour

I'm 39 weeks pregnant and would like to know ways of kickstarting labour. I've tried pineapple and also Chinese styles desserts. Don't want to have sex or eat a hot vindaloo.

Baby has engaged and already had irregular contractions for the last 2 weeks. Getting fed up with waiting now.

Many thanks

ps This is my 2nd pregnancy!

Remember, generally babies are smarter than we are. When the fruit is ripe it drops from the tree.

I went for a really long brisk walk the day before and then bounced up and down on a exercise/birthing ball when I came home as I was watching TV. My water broke that night. That worked for my first pregnancy anyway. GOOD LUCK

As Kimmi said, walking is good. Stimulating the nipples also helps (gently massaging them).

Hi Great Find

No I haven't tried Raspberry Leaf Tea. I read that it doesn't work for a lot of people so may not try it.

A friend told me to try coconut milk (from a coconut and not carton), so may give that try

In ante-natal classes I was told not to go on a huge stair-climbing mission - your ligaments are pretty loose by now and if you injure yourself now you are not going to have much fun in labour...

Yep becareful with the stairs i fell down some when i was 37weeks and injured my foot so badly i had to have crutches, my husband had to take the day off work too look after me on top of that i fell off the crutches lucky for us i fell on my bum both times but your center of cravity is off so maybe try a hill instead of stiars planty of those in HK! By the way my foot was so bad that after the bubs was born (a week later she was early) i couldn't walk around with her as my foot was still bad.

Scytran if you are still waiting ... I would recommend some acupunture, it worked really well for my second pregnancy and got my labour started very gently and I had a wonderful delivery. I saw Gianna Buonocore at the IMI, more details here:

If it's a choice between sex or climbing hills, I know which one I'd rather have!

Hope your labour has started, good luck!

Thanks pokfumum and Vulvic for your suggestions. No labour hasn't started yet. Anyway I went to HK Disneyland yesterday and did a lot of walking though, so hopefully that might start things going.

Take care

Trying to tempt the baby out by going to Disneyland, I like it!! Shame it didn't work!

No matter, the baby will come when it's ready. Good luck!

Second that from Ruth - a castor oil smoothie got my first labour going! But given the choice again I would opt for the acupuncture!!

Hi girls

Went to see dr today and he has arranged to do an induction next Sat. So might as well make the most of the week before baby comes along.

Many thanks to those who have replied.
