My doc is an interventionist... his C-section rate is 25-30% and episiotomy rate is 100%. Ewwwww. I am going to be going herbal, will be practicing the bradley method and am doing all I can to avoid all of the above and suction/ forceps etc, so I would be very very cross if after all that someone decided to cut me when it was not ABSOLUTELY medically necessary.
So now I'm looking to move to a more naturalistic doctor...
Any suggestions (besides the normal top three or five names that keep cropping up)?

The friends I have who managed all natural deliveries and were actually supported in their efforts by their OBGYN used Dr Sally Ferguson. Any chance you could PM me the name of your doc? 100% on episiotmies?! That's astonishing.

Hi firsttimemom,
What a shock!!! did you ask your doc, i mean who told you about that 100% episiotomy & C-section rate?
My friend's doc is one of the famous ones, and she really really insisted that my friend has to go C-section, but my friend also insisted NO and prefers vaginal delivery, she won. Maybe you can also tell your doc that you want natural as much as possible.

Hiya Honeypie, he told me himself, because I asked what his thoughts were on intervention, and he was quite proud to admit that he was an interventionist, that his concern was solely for the baby. I then asked about all the other rates. He is a very good doctor, don't get me wrong, but not for me.
> LOL! well, I absolutely do not want major surgery unless it is medically needed and unpreventable. Numerous studies have showed that normal VB is the healthiest option for both mother and child. My hubby is really scared for me too, but when he understood the risks of c-section he has realised that if we can go natural that is how it should be.

OK, whilst I want all the drugs possibley available to me during labour, I do not want a C section. I think it is appalling that so many women have it in HK when it is not medically necessary - it's like birth by schedule out here.

Hiya Mrs. Miggins, agreed, the best laid plans and all of that. And I am too old to be playing with my baby's life too, so I am really aware of what can go wrong, and in that event I'll have them do what it takes. I'll be trying to manage the pain with relaxation (wont be going for the "active birth") and hubby's massages, which he is very good at, but it may be that I opt for the epidural. What I dont want is some impatient doctor to cut me and pull my baby out with forceps because he can't be bothered to wait out the labour, and at the end of a hard labour to decide I need a c-section. A non-interventionist doctor is less likely to panic and thats likely to calm me too - and I'm more likely to trust that doc when he or she says that intervention is necessary...

I see Dr. Eric Lee in the Prince's Building and, while he does perform c-sections regularly, he is fully supportive of my decision to have an intervention-free delivery. He is also supportive of my bringing a doula along, as well. He says that the best way is natural as long as you can handle it. I highly recommend him and have enjoyed working with him.

Firstly I would go see Lucy Lord. She's not to everybodys taste and she does her fair share of c-sections but shes very professional and when I checked her stats she did more natural deliveries than c's. Also she tells you about making your birth plan which is where you say I don't want this and I do want that. But at the end of it all ladies surely what you want is a safe delivery. And sometimes that means intervention. For many women and frankly, some of you, sound a bit ego driven.
Having a baby is natural but it also took many lives in the past and a c-section is in fact medically speaking the proven safe option. I wish you good luck to you in your search for the doctor of your dreams but remember a happy end result is what you should really focus on.

Hi, Dr Joe Chan delivered my little girl 2 weeks ago. I phoned him when my wife, Susan had regular contractions. To my surprise, he was waiting for us at the labour room. Dr Chan did come several times before Susan delivered our girl about 10 hours later. To us, his services is superb and I would certainly recommend him to anybody anytime.
