Am 15 weeks pregnant and wondering if it is ok to have body massage and spa?

I used to have body massage once a week b4 I got pregnant but people have been telling me you shouldn't have body massage til you're 25 weeks. Is this true? What about Spa? Is it ok to have body wrap/body scrub done?

My doctor has told me that massages (even reflexology!) are fine as long as the masseur does not put any pressure on your belly. That said, it may differ from person to person, and in any case, I am a lot further along than you (I'm 24 weeks) so you should probably check with your doc.

Its ok to have a massage in your 2nd & 3rd trimester only with a massage therapist who is qualified in pre-natal massage. I know there is certain oils you can not use in pregnancy. Ive been told by a midwife that you must not have a spa bath or sauna, Im not sure about a bodywrap though.

You should not raise your core body temperature while pregnant, so heatpacks (which some masseurs use) are not recommended. That is also the reason that spas and saunas are not recommended. Otherwise, massages are ok as long as your belly feels comfortable with the pressure. A prenatal masseuse is recommended as they know what they can and can't do.

I know that Ellespa in Repulse Bay does pregnancy massages.

Does anyone know a qualified prenatal massage place apart from Ellespa in Repulse Bay? I live in DB so I am hoping to find one in Central or near Central.

Thanks!

In DB there is also Monica Vivanco 9384 1044. But I use a regular massuese; just lie on side and use diluted oils.

Hi there

I can confirm this; massage is fine with a person who is qualified in her work. The great lady (I must say) that works with us is called Kari Shroeder and she is both qualified and experienced, - but she is also a very good person and excellent with communicating and understanding the pregnant women. I suppose this comes from working with us so closely, - she basically meets pregnant women and new mums all day long.

One example of a client who told me a while ago that little details like how to arrange her bump perfectly and how to deal with leakage of breastmilk etc. was something that Kari just had all arranged and without any hesitation. Apart from actually having the massage, all those things seem to matter a lot as well, especially to someone that is somewhat hormonal, like new mums tend to be.

IN any case, feel free to call us for more information, I can, from personal experience, tell that Kari is really great!

Warmly,

Hulda

To add to what Hulda said, Kari is excellent. I am a client and just had a wonderful massage from her yesterday. I can tell her what is bothering me and what I would like her to work on and she knows exactly what to do. And with her background (BS in Kinesiology/cert in massage therapy/experience with pregs...)I feel completely comfortable in her hands. I am in my 9th month and actually got so relaxed on her table yesterday that I got a beautiful nap and those are hard to come by these days! I totally recommend booking with her!
