Hey there

Exepcting my first baby in 7/8 weeks time and will probably not breastfeed.I have to decide which formula to use and it seems most parents use Enfamil or Similac but I've also seen Hipp (Organic) which however is only avaible at babes & bumps and not in every supermarket.

Keen to get your experience!!!Thanks!

Go for BF if you can, On the otherhand I would recommend Enfamil. Was BF my daughter. The first 3-4 days was very tough cos not much milk but gradually milk flows after 2nd week but you must let baby suck as much as possilble.

Best of luck!!!

I know you're interested in formula, but I have to concur with the BF folks...think about it, really. And not because it's so "natural", the first several weeks were surprisingly challenging for us, but then everything went much more smoothly and by the time we weaned (at 20 mo and because we wanted to try for a second) it was very sad for me. Truly one of the nicest things about those first 2 years. So good for attachment and so good for baby.

Now we're in the process of adopting and I'm exploring re-lactating(!) (would love to be able to have this again with our second). But we'll need to be supplementing, and most likely a lot, so I'm interested in the formula responses you get.

Have you asked your pediatrician? Ours recommends Wyeth S-26, mostly because of the fish oils I think.

All formulas meet minimum standards required by law. No product is superior to another. Choose one that is readily available where you do your regular shopping.

Ensure that you have made an informed choice regarding your feeding method. Formula feeding does not offer any immunity to illness and allergies and has many health risks.

Many women cannot bf for medical or other reasons, it is not for everyone. It is nothing to be ashamed of or worried about.

The first few weeks are challenging with any baby - bf or formula. I do exclusively breast feed by personal choice, but there are days when I can see the benefits and advantages of formula feeding!! (the extra sleep, the freedom, etc...)

Matilda's advice is very good to buy something that is readily available so you won't be stressed looking for it when you run out. Once the baby comes, you will want everything to be a stress free as possible. I stocked up on all sorts of household goods via parknshop and welcome online before baby came and still shop that way as much as possible.

Good luck with your pregnancy and birth!!

First option: BF

Option 2: Pump the milk and put it in a bottle

Last option formula: Which one, doesn't matter, make sure it is iron fortified though.
