Baby movements?

Out of curiosity from a first-time mom-to-be, when did you first begin to feel your baby's movements? What were the sensations like? I'm 16 weeks and can't tell if it was the bubs or gas! :)

my hubby and i were convinced that we first felt movements by 18 weeks but our doc wasn't convinced, said it would be too small...

the sensations varies as your pregnancy progresses...initially it was just light fluttering but towards the end you could really feel the feet pushing against your belly!

it is lovely feeling to feel all these movements so enjoy!

Before we had ultrasound the date of the first movement felt was VERY important as it helped to date the pregnancy. Usually you feel a good deal of butterfly type rippling, Is it, isnt it? sort of thing and then one day the baby takes a penalty kick and there is no doubt. Remember the baby is moving much earlier than you feel it, you only feel the movements when it kicks the uterine wall with some force. 1st baby usually 18-18, 2+ babies a week or so earlier.

My wife was worried because she didn't feel anything until week 25. But that little chap emerged at almost 10 pounds and has now become a fearsomely strong toddler - so don't worry if you don't feel anything for a while!

as a first timer - I was 18 weeks before I felt the initial "flutters." Even then I wasn't sure.

When I was with my second, I knew what it felt like so I felt something at 16 weeks. Don't worry those flutters become something much crazier soon enough.

Thanks for all of your input, will be anxiously awaiting the first little flutters instead of disappointing gas. :)

Fetal movements and gas feel so similar at first. But then you will start to differentiate between them... and before you know it, you will be able to tell the kicks from the turns and the hiccups! Everybody is right -- the feeling is gorgeous. Sure am going to miss the movements after the baby is born.

Agree with the above - started feeling it between 18-20 weeks.

Now at 31 weeks I can feel little feet and fists pushing out of my stomach like something from alien. A new development this weekend is a swift kick to the bladder that sends me running for the loo!

Hi Dani R,

felt first movements at wk17/18 - first time baby for me. It felt like:

a) large soap bubbles which slowly rose inside me and burst or b) like a was a slow popcorn maker

It was no way like gas or indigestion for me - since both the soap / popcorn feeling was rather slow but regular.

Took another 6 wks until my husband could feel anything from the outside - but when he did he thought it was very cool.

Now at wk35 I can see and feel fists / legs running from the inside up and down the right side of my belly - I should try to catch it on video some day to show our baby when it's older! It really looks like in the Alien movies.
