I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and would like to start looking for nursing bras. Until now, I have always been using underwire or soft cup and would feel uncomfortable without cups "from below".
Any brands to recommend?
I have heard that Medela makes good bras. Does anyone know where they are sold in Hong Kong? Thanks in advance...

It's not Medela but I bought a really soft and comfortable nursing bra from grobag asia in HK
http://www.bumpto3asia.com/index.php/Product/118.html
It's so comfortable that I plan on buying the smaller size for when I finish breastfeeding.

i'm an underwire addict as well as I am pretty big and feel like i need the support. For my first pregnancy I bought two bras by Wacoal that had underwire. (i picked them up in the US) It turns out, underwire is NOT good for nursing as it constricts the breast too much.
So with the second pregnancy I have two - both wchih I love and feel good and supported in. One is the Bravado (built like a sports bra so lots of support) and the other is the elle macpherson bra. you can look at them online at www.figleaves.co.uk. I know that Bumps to Babes carries Bravado - but not sure about the Elle Macpherson.

You can try the below for maternity/nursing clothing:
For a very comfortable every night and day at home bra:
http://www.hk-bfmoms.com/
(Essential Bra and Leisure Bra - inexpesive and perfect for nursing)
The site is in Chinese, but has lots of English and you can call them.
Also international orders are easy at:
http://www.figleaves.com
They have Elle MacPherson, nice lacey and comfy.
You might also want to look at - you can order online from Singapore:
http://www.momsinmind.com.sg/

Is there a mothercare in HK? if so, the nursing bras are not. they have two types - once comes in 2 per pack, not 100% cotton, less expensive. the other one is 100% cotton, much more comfortable but more expensive too. mothercare sales staff will usually be quite happy to help you find the right size.

I have a question about the cutting of nursing bras in general -- they seem extremely high cut to me. I'm used to wearing bras that are cut much lower, so I don't know if there is a reason why nursing bras are cut so high -- is this strictly necessary? Is this the kind of support that I will need? If so, I'd best stock up on some higher cut tops!

hi Maya - they might look high cut now, but you won't believe the cleavage they show when you grow :) (and you should totally show it off, so avoid those high cut tops)
I bought Elle McPherson and something similar to the Leisure.Essential Bra linked above - I wear the ElleMcP out, and the other at home. I have a few others too, but no special brand. I wear a lot of the GlamourMom tops = they are like tank tops with shelf bras built in and feeding bits - very comfy and convenient.

Hi Crj, how wildly exciting that I will fill out a high-cut bra so much as to make it low cut -- I must remember to tell my husband that when I see him tonight! How many nursing bras do people find useful to have? Do we tend to need to change them very regularly?

Ironically, I thought I would wear the 'sexy' Elle McP ones more, but I do find that the more frumpy compfy ones get way more use!
I think I have about 5 or so of those, and in the first 6 weeks, I changed them 2-3 times a day. But now just one or two a day.
And I have about 4-5 Elle McPh ones, that I wore throughout my pregnancy and now when I go out. I could have done with just 2-3.
Sadly, now at 5 months breast are more efficient and look less fabulous - ha ha.

hello Crj, Where can I buy Elle McP bra in Hong Kong? Also I want to buy some comfy bras and some nursing tops for leisure/homewear. Any recommendations?

You can also find some comfortable sexy nursing lingerie on www.nappypooh.com (nursing bra + matching pant). It'll save you the shipping cost and time.

Sorry, I am still laughing at one of the earlier posts. Is there really a bar supplier in HK called Grobag Asia? That's calssic!
I was talking to a g/f of mine who had rather sizeable boobs before she got pregnant and she recommends Bravado aswell. Apparently the Elle McPherson ones don't give much support. Those of you that have the Elle bras - what do reckon for the larger-busted woman?

I think only one model or Elle McP is good for large bust (I mean large pre-pregnancy and huge during/after) Bravado is probably better for support.
Grobag Asia is a baby products supplier that does'sleeping bags for babies' or 'wearable blankets'

Am just worried about ordering online bcz of am not sure of the correct size. Thanks anyway guess I'll give it a try as I desperately need a good nursing bra :)

I have had hard time finding a correct size, and then I found this brilliant solution at a shop in Seibu, Pacific Place. A little extension for bras. It's got two hooks lined up vertically and fits any of your bras that has the same two hooks on the back. My rib cage kept on expanding during my pregnancy and aything that fit me a few weeks ago didn't fit anymore. Using this, I didn't have to keep on buying different sizes.

About size.
Go to a shop in HK to get 'sized' and then order, that's what I did.
Please support our advertisers:
MM it's advisable NOT to wear underwire bras if your going to BF. It can cut off the supply.
Please support our advertisers:
Well, you can try to identify your size with this website : http://www.85b.org/
Then, any serious e-shop will have a return policy that would able you to return the bras if the size isn't correct. You should just try on when you receive the product, without washing or tearing the tag, so you should have no problem returning it. Actually, I prefer trying my underwears (or even clothes in general) in the comfort and intimacy of my home, I never did like changing rooms in shops...

Macaron Mania - Would be interested in getting that bar-extender thingy you mentioned. Where in Seibu was it? Do you remember?
crj - thanks for clearing that up. Thought a maternity bra supplier called Grobag was just too good to be true!
Well my bazookas are currently a 38D so heaven knows what they'll be once the breast feeding starts. A DD or god forbid an E!!!

Vulvic - very funny!
I went from B to D... then when I was engorged a few days after the birth to pamala anderson boobs (should have taken a photo!) ... then back to a D.... but at about 4 or 5 months they are down to a C/D I think... (actually it depends how 'full' they are!!)
Please support our advertisers:
Perthesis, I'm not wearing underwire. To tell you the truth, I am too lazy to wear any normal bra at home...just wearing something very stretchy... (Cannot believe I used to wear really nice push up bras all day long in the office!! ha!)
Vulvic, I forgot the name of the shop, it's called "Princess something" or other...but located on the second floor of Seibu in Pacific Place mall. You cannot miss it. If you enter SEIBU from the entrance facing Queens Plaza, you go through where the shoes shop is on the right hand side, and some designer clothes on the left, you will see the only lingerie shop in SEIBU there on the right side. Small shop. It's not on display, so ask for bra extender and the shop keeper will bring it out. It's very inexpensive, too.
I found a good nursing bra at BtoB in Central. It's funny as I couldn't find anything that fits me at the same BtoB in Horizon Plaza, Ap Lei Chau.

Vulvic, get ready for some Jordan-esque proportions! I am normally a D cup and the girl at Rigby and Peller in London fitted me for one 34DD and one 34E without batting an eyelid...!

Vulvic,
You can also get bra extender from B2B, Central, saw it near the nursing bra, it's in a small plastic case.
They also have it in Sogo. Just ask from bra section.
I got mine for free when i bought a nursing bra at Motherworld.

Jordanesque!!!!! Fantastic!
Will pick-up a bra extender pronto - my ribcage has extended so much that Ilook like a prop forward with boobs.
Also heard about a good bar website for the larger boobed woman - Bravissimo. They do swimmers, lingerie and clothes. Not for maternity but will be good for those of us left with a pair of Pammie's Playthings after the breastfeeding is done.

I'm 26 weeks at the moment and now a size 85C. Do breast really get much bigger after the birth?
Please support our advertisers:
Please support our advertisers:
Hi xox, I'm in week 24 and am in a size 85C too. Have changed all the bras since the 4th month. Sales in B2B or linea negra said we should use non-wired bras but I just won't allow myself to go out wearing a non-support one with boobs jumping!!
Should one wear support bra at home too? The breasts are too heavy that no bra seems comfortable to fit them in so very often I just leave them bare without support at home.

I'm having the same problem as you Nicher. I'm in week 20. Time to get new bras, but will they last all through my pregnancy and nursing months ? At the moment I'm bare at home too, too hot and uncomfortable to wear any type of bras!
Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic, Prop-forward with boobs -- niiice!! LOL!
I am crossing my fingers that I get to keep the boobs after breastfeeding, but I am terrified that they will shrivel and droop and so am conscientiously wearing a sports bra to bed every night. Definitely stops the heaviness and the lolling around for now even if it can't fight gravity in the long run.
Nicher, bw -- whilst you are pregnant, I would stick to wearing bras that feel comfortable for you right now. I grew out of my usual bras pretty early on, so I bought some lightweight ones from Calvin Klein one size up, and they have pretty much lasted me from my second trimester through to now (35 weeks). My understanding is that underwiring is fine whilst you are pregnant, just not when you are nursing, so don't feel like you have to give up the support just yet.
Nursing bras are something different altogether because you are expected to grow even more once your milk comes in. Pro bra fitters recommend that you only get fitted for these at 36 weeks. Also, I think wearing nursing bras in this weather before you have to would be a killer -- they have two layers, so double the heat!!
Please support our advertisers:
Exactly! Too hot is definitely the problem! They are so heavy that almost touch the top of belly!
Whenever I remove the bra by day end, there is a mark along the side of my breasts which shows that the wire/ the inner strap is obviously giving too much pressure to the breasts. OR that the breasts are too full that they press hard on the wire creating this mark. Anyone has this problem too?
Please support our advertisers:
Oh no! That sounds very uncomfortable. Maybe you should try going another size up? Or try wearing sports bras or tank tops that have a built in elastic strap across the ribcage? I sometimes wear one of those tie-up triangular bikini tops as a bra and that is usually pretty comfy whilst giving support.

Jumping boobs be damned! If its the only way to be comfortable then go for it!
That said, beware the pervy blokes on the MTR. Almost gave one of them a slap this morning.

Hi Mayafox - in fact, the bras that I'm wearing now (with wire and "in-shape") are so-called nursing bras too. There is a special lock attaching the strap which can handily be unlocked when you BF (bought from Motherworld). I also bought some 'real' nursing bras - non-wired and non-padded, but they make my breast shape look so terrible under most of my tops (I'm not wearing the very loose tops typical for preggy).
Totally agree with the gravity issue... that's why I try to wear 'sleeping bras' at home but my breasts soon outgrow them and they no longer fit comfortably. Would like to know more about the sports bras you mentioned: where did you buy them? most sports bras are highly elastic but usually fit tight as they are tailored for active sports...are they really comfy? At least they won't restraint you from breathing well in bed?
Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic - that's exactly the reason why I can't let my boobs jumping! LOL
Please support our advertisers:
OMG!! I don't mean that I am wearing a bikini out in town! LOL! I mean as a bra, under a top...
The sports bras I'm sleeping in aren't real sports bras -- they are the ones that look like a mini tank top in stretchy cotton that comes just under your boobs. I got mine in Marks and Spencer and they are really lightweight, not heavy and structured like the real sports bras you described. I like them as they aren't restrictive but they do hold all the wobbly bits in place so I don't flop about in bed!
I definitely don't think I would be able to stand wearing a proper nursing bra just yet -- it will be just too hot. Already dreading what it will be like when I *have to* wear one next month.
Please support our advertisers:
Oh so your bub will be out next month! Good luck mayafox!
Will definitely check out the sports bras in M&S! Thanks!

Bras to bed??? I am sleeping au naturel with all my bits splayed out - am so hot at night that I can't even have a sheet over me. Not a good look but bugger it, I'm pregnant.
Mayafox - I much preferred it when I thought you were strolling about town in a string bikini lol!!
Please support our advertisers:
LOL! I think I'm already scaring enough people in the bikini at the swimming pool let alone on the Star Ferry!
Please support our advertisers:
Bikini on the Star Ferry! I dare you!
It's amazing, I used to be so paranoid wearing a bikini before I was preggers and now that I am the size of a house I don't care at all. It's nice to be able to dodder about like a fitball on legs and not care.

It's wicked that you are comfortable and confident with your pregnant body -- I love the smooth roundness of everything too and will miss it, strangely, after the baby is born!
Please support our advertisers:
Me too! I am constantly touching my tummy and rubbing it during the day, love being able to feel the baby.
Also, the roundness is more pleasing to the eye than having folds of tummy (which I predict I will have have apres-baby) so am making the most of it and wearing stretchy tops that show it off.
According to friends your stomach resembles an un-made bed after childbirth. Nice.
Please support our advertisers:
Folds of tummy is still 'fixable' with extra effort. Let's hope boobs won't turn into deflated balloons after BF!
Please support our advertisers:
Yeah or a well-timed tummy tuck. Ditto for boobs.

Time to stock up on support pants and push-up bras methinks!
