same thing happened to me and I waited another twelve days and still nothing happened - so it became mandatory to have a C Section and the only regret I have was waiting that extra long two weeks.....

At my 40 week check in the UK my baby's head was also not engaged. Then eventually when I went into labour after 19 hours I was only 4cm dilated, I hadn't progressed from when I first went in, the midwife said my cervix felt so tight so then I went on to have a C section.

I know my Dr offered me a C section at 40 weeks because he could tell I was sick of being pregnant and given the liklihood that nothing would happen he offered me the opportunity to get on with it.... I really don't think he offered it to me out of his own interests or because HE wanted to hurry things up.... It was an option and he gave me the other options ie: inducing but there was a very strong chance that this would be long and painful and ultimately not successful or I could wait - which he didn't highly recommend but it was still an option and its what I chose to do.... So I agree with Waffle not disclosing her Dr and I really don't think you need a second opinion... He is not forcing you to have a C section, if you really want to wait and see then do so, if you really want to try an induction then do so- But when I look back now and weigh up the options I would definitely go for a C-section.

High head at term---nota good situation. Your Dr has elected to give itanother week---very good. There are two possible management courses.

1. Elective C-S

2. SHORT induction, get some good contractions going, if the head goes down in a couple of hours continue---if not C-S.

waffle, at this point, after reading another one of your posts too, i think i know who your doctor is. NO, you do not absolutely need a c-section. There are very high rates of C's here, and some of the doctors here contribute a larger percentage of c's than others. If you'd like to PM me personally, please do, as I was in a very similar situation as you and was told the same thing. We waited for labor to start naturally. Definitely write me; I really felt very uncomfortable with the advice I was given in the 40th week.

No doctor can tell when a cervix will open or when labor will begin. You could have been told what you were told and gone into labor within the hour, etc. Be true to your body and baby. If all of your tests (non-stress, u/s, etc.) are coming back fine and you'd like to try for a v-birth, than do it.

It is perfectly normal to be in what you're describing as your situation...head not engaged, etc., etc...and not have to head for a c-sect. Plenty of women experience it. Statistically, the average is 41weeks and something like 2-6 days for first time moms.

Its very common in 1st pregnancys for the head not to engage until labour has started. In England you would be monitored closely but allowed to go up to 2 weeks over before being induced. My 3rd baby was born in the UK and was 10 days late, induction was mentioned for the following week but nature took its course as it often does. Agree that HK seems to have a well above average c-section rate, they seem very keen to get you to deliver on your due date here. A normal pregnancy is 40 weeks but thats not set in stone, some babies come early, some come late but they all come eventually.

Now the weather has cooled down - do lots of walking and you may find that helps things along, when you need to rest - squat for a few minutes - open your pelvis for the baby to move down onto your cervix - it is this pressure that will begin to soften it. Don't panic yet....

Personally I would trust your Dr. My baby didn't engage at all and as I result I suffered a cord prolapse which put my babies life in severe danger.
